Greetings to all. Havent written for awhile. Life is busy, blabalabla, you all know.
Good news is that I finally got some sleep this weekend. Of course not as much as I would have liked (because every morning I have to get up as on work days, so no sleeping in). But in general I tested less and just chilled. Of course the excel looks better with more greens in it but in the middle of the day/night he is green for sure. Plus during this time (1.5 months from diagnosis) I have noticed that when his Blood sugar drops, he goes to eat, even when he wasnt hungry before. That is why I trust him. He has great instincts.
Everything has been pretty stable. But a couple of days ago his
Numbers were higher than I had wished for (plus I was running out of syringes) so I decided to go from .75 unit to 1 U. Then the numbers went even higher for a cycle (panicky liver?). But they stayed in blues, so no sos for me. But he started to vomit and had loose stool and no appetite and no energy etc- it has happened before. I dont think he likes higher doses. The difference is only 0.25 units but the reaction is big. So I backed off from the 1 unit, because I dont like him feeling sick. And it worked. His numbers are very good again. Maybe it restarted it? Shocked his pancreas to better numbers? I might do it again in the future. Like a little shock therapy
.
I keep hoping to get better and better numbers and decrease the doses. But I have calmed down. At first I lived and breathed his illness and thought when Im really active about it, he gets into remission really soon. But now I know it doesnt go like that. I just have to be really patient. And well honestly I feel lucky that he got so well regulated so soon. I mean I see other cats’ spreadsheets every day. And they are a mess. I just cant believe how some of you can deal with it- preshot no skyhigh and in a few hours watching closely not to get a hypo.
I have to look more into pancreatitis. I think Ants has it. The chronic version. Have to look more into it. Vets in Estonia are useless in that matter. Sometimes he doesnt want to eat and vomits. Sits in a meaoaf position (have seen you described it like that).
Everything before diagnosis I thought was a stress (we moved a year ago etc). But in general his mood is better than before diagnosis. He used to sleep behind the tv a lot (something he never did in previous apartment. But also there was no free space behind tv). So I thought okay he is stressed from moving and it’s his safe place. But after diagnosis and getting insulin he doesnt hide anywhere anymore and he wants to play a lot more. That is good, right?
He has been completely off dry food for at least a week (maybe 2). Ok I should have put it in a spreadsheet. But well he started to give up on it on his own anyway. I put about 5 grams of dry food in his bowl in the morning. Sometimes he ate some, sometimes he did not.
I have some of his Hill’s struvites’ dry food left (sd or cd- too lazy to look right now). But Im not giving it to him. Too many carbs.
I have seen you write about the cost of dry vs wet food. That it is almost the same. Hm well not in Estonia. Quality wet food (vs hills presc. diet) costs 4-5 times more. But I have made my peace with it. Whatever Ants needs. Im happy when he is happy.
Sorry for the long post.
