Hi all!
It's bittersweet to be back here again but I just wanted to give FDMB a quick update on my kitty Junior and perhaps get some thoughts on my mom's kitty Angel.
Junior's BG has been in the 70's and hopefully it'll stay that way! He's the sweet kitty I knew before the whole diabetes happened. Dumb but lovable. Unfortunately his heart disease has worsened and his overall health isn't good. He's 9-1/2 lbs now and looks anorexic (or as I like to call it, cat-orexic). His heart has gotten so big that it's pushed into his lungs and he burns alot of calories trying to breathe. Otherwise he's a happy kitty with bad breath. Thanks Fancy Feast!
So mom's cat Angel is Junior's sister cousin, a 14 YO calico. I just learned she had a blood test 2 weeks ago and her BG was "normal" at 160. She's in ICU tonight her BG is "cause for concern" at 258. I'm trying to clear the cobwebs in my kitty diabetic mind and that sounds like a diabetic to me. Angel's other health problems:
- June she had UTI which triggered fatty liver disease She has been tube fed since June. Vet recommended Prescriptions AD for its high calorie.
- In October she started hiding alot and eating kitty litter.
- This week she fought the feedings and kept vomiting even with Cerenia. It has taken mom 2 hours to feed her, 4x/day
- Tonight we found her collapsed and lethargic. She had jaundice and vet said it looks like she has pneumonia (food probably went down the wrong tube and caused an infection in her lungs)
Has anyone had similar experiences? I just wanted to see what we could be in store for.
Thank you!
Bonnie
