Morning LL! Moonie has feline acne again--She had been having it on & off for quite a long time, then it disappeared for a long time--It looks like blackheads on the chin and can be like little red pimples. It can get infected and comes from feeding from plastic dishes, stainless steel sometimes, dirty chin, allergies, so we have switched to corelle dishes-She hasnt had an outbreak in such a long time. Oh well..
I cant even think of how she got this again, but the dish in the cat feeder is plastic? I have started treating her with hibiclens antibacterial wash and a thin layer of oxydex from the vet.
This med is like a year old, so I'll call the vet today--She may need a checkup--I dread them as I am always worried about her--but when you gotta go, you gotta go!
Hope I can clear it up quickly..All else is well.
She is very angry because I keep checking her chin-hissed at me several times--Gee, I didnt mean to make you mad Moonie!-Trying to help, but she doesnt see it that way-
She is behind the couch pouting!! :-x :-x :-x Hope she gets over it soon-he had some nice numbers yesterday--Hope we see them again today--
Have a great Wednesday LL-Hugs!

Re: 11/10 Moonie AMPS 226 feline acne

Not a bad start for the day. Poor Moonie is probably embarrassed to have kitty zits. Give the sweet girl some treats.

Re: 11/10 Moonie AMPS 226 feline acne

Not sure which feeder you're using, but I have some ceramic dishes - very small and shallow - I think they are for condiments, I think I got them at Target or somewhere like that. I use them in the feeders so that that the kitties don't eat directly from the plastic. My 2 portion auto-feeder has removable plastic inserts that I remove and just put the bowls right in there. And the petmate (I think) 5 meal feeder could fit some of the very small shallow bowls I have as well.

Not sure if that would help, but I know plastic is one of the things often implicated in feline acne.

Re: 11/10 Moonie AMPS 226 feline acne

I also use small dishes that I insert into the autofeeder, they sit just on top of the plastic that it came with. Hope Moonie's acne improves, not a fun thing for a pretty girl like Moonie to have.

Re: 11/10 Moonie AMPS 226 feline acne

Poor Moonie, I hope you can get it cleared up soon. Sounds like it's making her uncomfortable and grouchy.

Re: 11/10 Moonie AMPS 226 feline acne

poor moonie! We stopped letting mocha eat out of the plastic auto feeder we bought her because she developed a nasty rash on her upper chest area, where she would hang over the auto feeder when eating ... our civvie twix also has feline acne and currently has a big ol' scab right under her lip on the side of her face .. it keeps growing but I don't know what to do for her ... :YMSIGH:

Re: 11/10 Moonie AMPS 226 feline acne

poor moonie! no fun for the girl, and then mom keeps messing with her chin. I hope it will clear up soon for Moonie. It has been ages since I have had to deal with this - so sorry.

looking for good numebrs today Moonie!

Moonie? you got kitty zits? That's OK - I like you anyways. You wanna do something today? ~~ Mannie

Yay for almost green Moonie! One of my civies, Sam (Muffin's mom) gets acne too, in one spot on her chin. I got rid of all the plastic water bowls and food dishes (except for the fountain, it's plastic, but I've never seen her drink out of it) and she was clear for a long time too, but now has it again. I've never done anything for it, as she's not a very touchy-feely type of gal most of the time. And the vet has never suggested anything for it either, so I'd be interested if you find something that works.

Maybe after cleaning, use some of the topical antibiotic w/ anesthetic in it would help. Some of the zits can be painful.

Aww, Moonie :( Not good having kitty zits, but your numbers are looking good

Hopefully it clears up soon, it must be uncomfortable. Hope you are having a good day Roni!

Tonite she has gone one point down from pMPS!! Is this cat unbelieveable!!
She did however, let me treat her chin--
Hibiclens is an antibacterial wash( use a drop on a cotton ball w/water on it, rinse) then put on Oxy Dex med from vet--This has worked for us before--
Moonie has had skin thingys before--Untreated Acne can get infected as Moonie's did once--Will write in the am when more peeps are awake, not like me--night bird   --Have a good sleepus, clear skin  , and a restful Sleepus--Ni Ni &Hugs LL

Hey Roni...thanks for your words of encouragement. I was so swamped at work today and beat tonight....trying to focus on Gracie's numbers so didn't get around
to condos   I really miss it when that happens.

Sorry to hear about Moonie's acne. One of my other cats used to do this also and we've never had any plastic dishes. I did warm epsom salt soaks for her, too, in addition to the scrub and the meds. That really seemed to help...and it can dry out the zits, too. Of course, Moonie may not be too happy about that!!

Hope she is much better tomorrow.....so great that she saw blue today!!!

Sleep tight.
