The below e-mail is cut from Alley Cat Allies. I have been so worried about them. I was involved in the project when I worked in AC. I cried when I received this e-mail. I'm so glad they have found about 1/2 of them. I hope the rest show up.

We are nearing the end of day two post-Hurricane Sandy and we have some very good news to share.

As I’m sure you’ve seen, the “Storm of the Century” brought much devastation. As soon as we could, we were getting eyes—and feet—on the ground to assess the situation and start helping cats and caregivers.

We are thrilled to tell you that we have already accounted for almost half of the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk Cats! This is a great sign, since feral cats tend to stay away after a disaster for several days until they sense things are back to normal. They have been very happy to see us (and us them).

Given all they’ve been through, the cats seem remarkably healthy, if a little hungry. We’ve encountered two cats who needed a little extra TLC, so our local team had them immediately vetted and cared for until they are ready to return to their home.

Lastly, our expanded Disaster Response Team has arrived and is headed to the Boardwalk to further assess the situation and build temporary shelters and feeding stations for the cats. They will then start planning out the long rebuilding effort and begin coordinating our wonderful volunteers who are standing by, ready to help.

We know caregivers and rescuers all along the East Coast have been affected by this massive storm. It’ll take weeks and months for lives to be rebuilt. Our hearts go out to them, and Alley Cat Allies is determined to support them through this disaster.

Thanks to you, we have been able to deploy quickly. And with your continued help, we are now expanding our efforts to aid cats in need. Of course, we’ll keep you updated as the situation develops.

Thanks for your continued support at this important time,

Becky Robinson
President

I'm glad that so many of the cats survived the disaster. I heard a story on the radio about a man who feeds about 25 feral cats in Atlantic City. He said that after the worst of the hurricane all 25 were out walking along what was left of the boardwalk in a single file. Cats are survivors!

It's encouraging to hear they have already seen half the feral cats .. my hopes are the other half show up unharmed soon ...

I'm glad they found so many of them unhurt. I hope the others are alright! I hope they're just still in hiding.
