Marje, I don't think I'll be able to get pills. I doubt they will take the Clavamox back even though it hasn't been mixed. I was told before they don't take any medicine back as a policy. If I can't exchange it, I can't afford to buy it a second time since I need to save for her dental.

Very nice start for Furball! Unfortunately, my vet won't take meds back either. I understand, but it is frustrating sometimes.

What a nice blue amps for Furball today!
Though the clavamox is sweet, it'll be good to start her on it today.
I wish vets didn't have a 'one size fits all' outlook with pets and meds.

I hope Furball's little ear is better pronto and the dental goes quickly with just a cleaning. Sending tons and tons of good ear and good toof vines to you both.
Bless her little heart, she's still her happy, purry self. Please give her a little scritch from me.

Hope she takes the clavamox without too much fuss. That is what Cleo had to take before her dental. She did not seem to mind the taste. It gave her pudding poo on the second day, even with the forti flora starting from day 1. After the dental, they gave me clindamycin to replace the clavamox. It was unflavored, and the bitterest thing I have ever tasted. She was to take it for 10 days, but I called vet after about 5 days, since the pudding poo was getting worse, and was told I could stop it. The clindamycin only had to be given once a day vs twice a day for the clavamox.

Thanks everyone. I had a nice btb with the kitties for a little while this morning before I went to the store and the vet. The +2 was before I left. When I told the vet my concerns about sweetener being added, they said it doesn't have any sweetener. I can get pills next time if I want to. They don't usually mention them because most people have a hard time pilling a cat. I gave Furball her fist dose when I got back. It will will be 9 hours in between doses today instead of 12, but I think that's okay and I needed to get her started. Hopefully it won't make her BG go up.

Furball wanted lots of loving when I got back and she even sat still long enough for me to cut a mat off of her neck that she normally wouldn't let me touch. I hate it when they get them on their neck.

Carla, my vet said the exact same things ~ about the AB being sweetened and assuming I'd prefer the liquid over pills. (He thought I was crazy for tasting the AB ;-) .) Back in May, I called the manufacturer of Clavamox (Zoetis) and spoke with a rep. She confirmed that the liquid form is sweetened (with saccharin). When I told my vet, he said 'oh.' :roll: I noticed a slight rise in her BGs, but it's hard to tell how much of that rise was due to infection (we're going through the same thing now). I'm glad you were able to get the water added to the AB ~ I hope it starts helping asap :smile:

Give her some scritches for me!

Hi Carla, just catching up on Furball. So sorry about her ear and toofies. Those darn dentals can get really $$$ :sad:
Hopefully it will just have to be a cleaning..Paws crossed!!
And hopefully the AB's will start working soon for Little Miss and won't raise her BG to much.
Give Furball lots of scritches from us and have a great Caturday Carla!
