Yesterday Butters was high and flat. Today, she is starting out high and flat. I increased her dose by .25u this morning, from 1.375 to 1.625. I am stuck on the "in between" measurements, which doesn't matter at all when using calipers. :smuggrin:

New dose measurement is 2.44mm for my syringe type.

Eating well, etc. etc. No news is good news. Same meds. Same old, same old.:) First snowfall last night. And so begins six months of winter.:blackeye::(:arghh:

Good luck with the new dose :cat: And snow!? Nope, nope, nope. We cross our fingers for one snowfall a year (and that's perfectly fine by us lol).
 
I'm glad Butters is still feeling ok. Hopefully the increase helps get her BG down. She'll get there again :bighug:
We had a little bit of rain/snow mix yesterday. Obviously it didn't stick around, and that's fine by me. I like snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Other than that, I'll pass. :p

Not much, less than a couple of cm here. It still sucked to see it, and it hasn't melted yet.

I increased by .25u this morning. :D I feel pretty comfortable about it. She has been nothing but high and flat for days. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any action.

I pass the time with snowshoeing and cross country skiing, but I could do without the snow altogether. My future retirement dream (pipe dream) has always been winters in California and summers in Ontario. lol.

I saw the info about the Bupe. Prefilled syringe---to be given on the gums or injected?

Hope the .25 helps and you have plenty of room and the nice flatness *not what you want but better than unpredictability.
 
So far, she still seems to love pink: 389 @+7. Close to making red her new favourite colour.
A nice, slow descent into well regulated numbers is my dream for Butters.

The Bupe is in prefilled syringes to be administered sub lingually.

While it can be given sublingually, I spoke with a vet pharmacist in the past and was advised that rubbing it on their upper gum in their cheek pocket is the most effective and predictable route of administration because a cats gums are highly vascularized and therefore absorption is optimal there . Anything left over after you rub is also more easily absorbed on the gum with the cheek up against it....keeps it from being lost in the mouth.

Worth a try to see if there is a difference. As you have mentioned before, the first clinic didn’t have her pain under control and she ended up requiring combination therapy at the 2nd clinic, so it is not surprising the Bupe they prescribed didn’t work:(. Maybe now that her pain is at a lower level, the Bupe will work well :).

It removed her affection for pink. She is more fond of red right now. :( I don’t know what is going on with her. Paws crossed this is some new dose wonkiness.

I hope you got to enjoy some nice, pre-November rains weather today!

I tried this tonight. :) Not sure I see much of a difference. Three hours later, she seems to be somewhat drugged. Like, staring at the wall blankly and purring a drugged purr. Actually, it looks rather pleasant and peaceful. I kind of want to join her.

I just realized that the video interview with the vet is over two weeks away. I'm bummed out. The IM specialist never got back to me today and I got too busy to follow up again (okay I know how awful that sounds). I'm going to follow up first thing tomorrow. If the bupe seems to be working maybe I can ask for some bupe from her.
 
Another option is compounded bupe (needs a special prescription pad at least in BC). That way I was able to control the dose more easily, and I got it chicken flavour. Plus a vial was WAAAAY cheaper than syringes from the vet.
 
T is a super lightweight and only needed .15....almost nothing so maybe try a smaller dose?
If I gave T more than that he would be OUT...like “are you ok?” out albeit very peaceful out.

It doesn’t sound awful at all.....it’s tough to juggle all of it! Maybe call and explain and see if there is any way they can help you out (moving the Appt up) if someone won’t help you from the ER clinic.

Definitely ask for a vial as Wendy mentioned vs
pre filled syringes or you can also ask for a prescription and fill it at a regular pharmacy.
 
In the end it was kind of a weird night. Butters wouldn't settle down and go to sleep for several hours, until around 3am. She was wandering around a lot. I kept trying to bring her to bed but she wasn't having it. She always sleeps through the night, other than waking up to eat snacks. Maybe in the end the Bupe was stronger and this behaviour is related to the bupe. I don't think I can know for sure.
I would give a smaller dose next time, though.
I'm calling the hospital again this morning to see what they can do. And will be asking to see if I can get an rx to get compounded bupe.

Hi,

Pacing can be a side effect of Bupe in cats. The other possibility is the pain was controlled so she felt comfortable enough to go check her territory out :). You would know best based on how she looked which one is more likely to be the explanation. Sounds like pacing?

Hopefully the IM helps and provides the prescription for you :bighug:. The other thought is see if you are able to get on a cancellation list if the new vet has one. People cancel appts all the time and they may be able to do the video conference sooner than later.
 
Prayers for butter to get well soon and hope her BG gets down as well.

did the vet consider prescribing any anti inflammatory medication!!?? I know it is not recommended for diabetic kitties but sometimes it is a must.

I had asked about a cancellation list. The vet I am seeing only does non-surgical appointments two days per week and it's extremely rare for someone to cancel with him. They said they'd let me know if something changes and they can move the interview and the appointment up sooner.

The Internal Medicine vet never brought up giving an anti-inflammatory. I don't think she thought it was necessary for Butters. How is Meme doing?
 
I’m sorry! The lower dose may work best :bighug:! We could literally pick Ts paw up at drop it and he was OUT on .2 so try .15 and go from there :).

I will keep my fingers crossed that someone cancels :p!! It’s a crazy world right now so it could happen.

So far she is doing very good , hope to continue like that

yesterday her vet asked me to stopped the antibiotic and the anti inflammatory medication.

today she dropped to very low numbers ( 35) :confused::confused:, I guess that i need to reduced back to 0.5 because this drop is not good and it is very early in the cycle.
