Just went to refill Casey's Lantus prescription, it's up to $171 per bottle! O_O Does anyone know how to get it cheaper? Apparently that's the going cost now. I mean, if I have to pay it I have to pay it but geez!!

There is or was a coupon in the Supply Closet sub-forum for these.

How about a road trip up to Canada, where you don't need an Rx? You'd need a passport or special license plate.
Or sending the Rx to Canada (because it'd ship to USA, must have Rx)

And the Lantus 3 mL pens are cheaper 1 at a time; plus the insulin doesn't start to expire until you start to use the pen, withdrawing the insulin with a U-100 syring.

Thanks! I checked around here, though, nobody sells the 3mL pens one at a time in my area. You have to buy an entire box, which isn't any cheaper than the vials. Casey's up to 7u 2x, so the insulin expiring before I use it isn't a problem. Also, I don't have a passport, and getting one, plus the gas to drive 2 hours to Canada, would make things more expensive than just buying the vial here! I might look up the coupon, though...

I get my Lantus vials at Walgreens. This is for the 100u vials, not the pens. It's $135 (plus tax) with the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. The Savings club is $20 a year, I just renewed my club subscription, and since it was a renewal, it was only $10 for the 2nd year. You can join right at the pharmacy.
My local Walmart sells it for $155 plus tax. (In my state, Ohio, prescription meds are taxed if it's for a pet, but not for humans, how stupid is that?)
Was very surprised Walgreens is cheaper. I assume you by your username, you are in Ohio also?

Yes, I am :-) I'll give Walgreens a try, thanks!

ETA: OK, I just called Walgreens. The current price for Lantus is $168.10 per bottle, and I'd save $15 if I got the Savings Club card, which would make the price $152.99. Of course, the prescription card is $20, so I'd actually be paying MORE than I would at Meijer, but at least it would be cheaper for the rest of the year. It sounds like the price of Lantus vials has gone up about $22 all over. Bleh! :-P

If that's for a vial, it may comfort you to know I paid $78 today for a single pen at the drug store - and they were $108 (for a pen!) at the vet's. :o

Still, a pen is a better deal than a vial unless you can get a vial to keep long enough to use it up. A pen lasts us 3 or 4 months, and a vial wouldn't keep long enough for Ragnar.

Blessings!

And there is a Lantus Savings Card program available from the manufacturer here: http://www.lantus.com/considering/save-on-lantus/default.aspx Only $25 for up to 6 pens. I believe your prescription needs to say "lantus solostar pen".

But if you are closer to Canada, it's much cheaper, $99 at Costco for 5 pens.
Oh NO! I just paid $78 for a pen at the drug store, and missed using the coupon by less than two hours!

Some people have said they have gone back to the pharmacy where they picked up the insulin and did get the discount. You might want to try that. It's worth a few bucks to you for the effort.

Just in case, I wanted to say that your lantus should last up to six months if you keep it in the fridge.(not the door). Just keep and eye on it for cloudiness, or flakes. Or if suddenly the numbers go wonky. I know it has a one mont expiry printed on it but that's more for humans who go through it faster.

Really?! You mean the price went up in the last month? I just bought a vial on April 3rd and it was the price I told you. I assume the price you quoted is the same for the entire state, and it went up here too, Crap!

BTW, whereabouts in Ohio are you? I am in the NE corner near the lake (the snowbelt).

I can't answer for ohiogal, but I'm in the Toledo area. There are a few of us Ohioans on the board.
