Hi guys!

I am pretty new to feline diabetes. Right now I've been giving insulin at full units and have tried to adjust by 0.5U but how the heck do you do this accurately with U100 syringes and insulin?! My syringes only have marks at each 1U and they are so close together I don't know how to accurately do, 0.5 or 0.25 or I see some people dosing even like 0.8, 0.9... etc. Am I missing something?

You can get U100 syringes with half unit markings--I get mine at WalMart. Then you can do half unit and estimate quarter unit between the marks.

If you use a U40 insulin you can use U100 syringes for doses like .8 and .8; .5 u on a U100 syringe = .2 u of U40 insulin.

Welcome to the board!

I use the ones from w. mart and they have the smaller marks on them.

Happy furry hugs to you!

Some people use U40 insulins (like Caninsulin/Vetsulin) with U100 syringes, and a conversion table helps them measure out very tiny amounts, but I assume you are using the U100 form of PZI? If you check the pharmacies, you can get U100 syringes with 0.5u markings. (I know BD makes them for sure). That makes life MUCH easier.

I used the U-100 syringes with the 1/2 unit markings as others have said. And then use a magnifying glass to see better for the estimates between .5 units. Good lighting and a good magnifying glass can really make a difference in how you can measure tiny dose adjustments. :-D

Good luck!

Buy some U100 3/10 cc insulin syringes with half unit markings

Then use these close up pictures to measure teeny doses: http://steverapaport.com/jock/SyringeFineGradations/
