As most of you know due to the crazy night last night we skipped evening insulin yesterday. This morning reading was 579 before eating so we gave him 1U of the PZI. He picked a lil but didn't eat much so I opened the can of SD W/D the vet sent home & he actually ate more than I thought he would. I just opened it 10mins ago so right before his 3+ which was down to 304. Now we're aiming for less than 200 right? I'll test again at 6+ but hopefully I can get him eating more than just that food, don't intend on buying it since it seems worse than the friskies nutritionally. Feeling a lil more at ease now since it's starting to go the right direction but wow did last night wear me out with stress. FX it's smooth sailing from here & I really appreciate everyone's help & kind thoughts!

Re: 3+ reading after dose change

Glad you went with the 1 unit...I am sorry I missed everything last night,
In the beginning and especially going thru your first hypo can be very exhausting!
Make sure to take some time today for yourself and try to destress...
Glad he ate and if you can get a +5 just in case that would be great
keep us posted!

Re: 6+ reading after dose change

Thank you! He has been eating the W/D well today (not liking that but I'll take it). Just did his 6+ test & it was 290, down a lil but he has been eating off in on quite a bit. I guess I should prolly try 1.5U tonight if it doesn't go lower or do I stick with 1U since we had all the issues last night?

Re: 6+ reading after dose change

I'd be terrified to up the dose until after he's had a chance to level back out from the hypo and would only give 1u tonight, if it were Poopy. From everything I've read the more experienced members have posted, I don't think they'd up it either...but we'll see.

You did SOOO good last night! flip_cat

Re: 6+ reading after dose change

I would stick with the one unit. It may take him a few cycles to settle into the dose before you see lower numbers. And since you are making a food change, that can also lower the numbers over the next few cycles.

When you increase, unless your numbers are running super high, we suggest raising by .25 units at a time rather than .5. You can always increase the dose if you aren't seeing progress, but as you saw last night, you can't get the insulin out of the cat once it's shot!

Re: 6+ reading after dose change

I agree with everything Sue said, hold the 1.0 unit for a few days until
he has a chance to recover from the hypo
also raise in .25 increments
You are doing an awesome job!

Re: 6+ reading after dose change

Great thank you! He's loving the w/d & eating pretty well today but I need to find others he'll eat. Got a big list for the pet store but very happy with today's progress!

Re: 6+ reading after dose change

Do you think he would adjust to the other foods if you mixed 3/4 to 1/4 and slowing increase that 1/4 to 100%? I did that with my civvie and she finally is eating ff - chicken only - hates change, but it took about 2 months to get her to 100% ff.

I also must use the magic bullet and blend the ff to the consistancy of a/d... very fine. She will walk away if the texture is different.... definatley a cat! GRRRRRR!

I have also added a bit of tuna water to Sugar Beans food and some fora flora ( purchased here in Tx. from the vet or on line). I have used some par. cheeze to intice too. All have worked but only works for short amount of time with one thing, then I must change it up.

He must eat if he is going to get a shot, and must be able to keep it down.

He really has come down off of 1 unit, goooood going on changing that dose!!!!! ;-)

Re: 6+ reading after dose change

Ok so 10+ reading is 451 & he's been eating good all day. Do I give him his shot now or do I have to wait 12hrs?
