Cher has been prescribed Movicol for her constipation issue. She is to take 1/4 teaspoon daily. Just wondering if anyone has used this medication for their kitty?

An X-Ray revealed a substantial amount of feaces with a gas build up behind it. Consequently she was given a microlax enema which was not a very pleasant procedure for her.

She also had an abdominal examination with much prodding by the vet which has left her very sore in that area. She is getting around in slow motion and is not at all comfortable at this time. I think the prodding has caused her the most discomfort.

Has anyone heard of this medication being used for cats.

She has been having pumpkin and cat grass, however lately she has lost interest in both.

I am also interested to hear what others use to treat constipation.

Have you tried Miralax? I used it with Jack for a bit. 1/2 a tsp daily was a little much for him, backed it off to 1/4tsp which helped soften up the stools.
I'm not familiar with Movicol and sounds like you've tried the pumpkin already. Some other folks use SEB slippery elm bark or MMR Marshmellow root as well.

With him having impacted feces, not sure if these would be enough after the "procedure" to keep him regular and prevent any recurrences.

Sorry to hear she is having difficulty. Please be sure to review felineconstipaton.org. Lots of good info.

My Rose has struggled w/ constiparion. We now manage it with both Miralax and Cisipride.

Given your description, I would suggest an xray confirmation that the acute crisis is resolved as there would be a different treatmemt in an acute situation vs ongoing maintenance.

I use Natural Moves by Pet Alive ....dissolve 1/4 capsule in water and slowly syringe . Elmo has had a BM every day since starting this supplement. I especially like it because it’s all natural . Works wonders for him.

After 4 manual evacuations, I started using Miralax, and she's finally controlled. As to the amount, well I used 2 tsps. daily for a while, and then that proved too much. I started using less and less, until I am now at 1tsp daily in two separate doses. Plumbing been working well for almost a year now.
Never heard of Movicol, but it seems to be highly recommended (I looked it up).

I use Miralax too. I used to use Vetasyl which I feel works best to maintain after the initial rally hard stools have resolved.

Thank you ... I will speak to the vet about Miralax and SEB .....

Titan has responded well to the baby food pumpkin , we mix 1/4 teaspoon right into his food.
Cher liked the pumpkin initially but after a while she didn't seem fussed on it. If I fed it to her from my fingers, she would half heartedly eat it.

I will keep on trying the pumpkin.

I agree that felineconstipation.org has loads of good information .... I have visited it a number of times ...

Thank you also for your suggestion to ensure the acute crisis is resolved .. I will also mention Miralax and Cisipride to the vet.

Poor kitty. I can relate...well ok, Jimmy can relate. He has he beginning looks of mega colon. Jimmy’s an Acrocat. The vet did a manual extraction in the room with me there...I swear her fingers were so far up inside him I thought they would come out his mouth!! :( That was a week ago today. So far so good...I have him on cisapride, lactulose, CBD oil and Nutrivee prebiotics. I have to closely monitor every time he uses the litter for any signs of straining and the hardness of his stools. Once he was cleaned out his numbers dropped significantly as you can see on my SS. It’s a dosing guessing game with his poop regiment.

It took about two days after the enema for a solid poop...but he’s doing much better. Hope your kitty feels better soon. He prob feels some relieve.

This sounds good .... does it have a bitter taste?

Was he able to stand up and walk around after his procedure? I have just taken Cher back to the vet as she is unable to stand up and walk around and she can't bear anyone to touch her tummy. I am currently waiting for the vet to call.

Oh no! Yes he was able to stand and walk...and was hungry because his belly was empty when they x-rayed. That doesn’t sound right...keep us posted after you speak to vet.

My TiTI was fine after her evacuation. Just a little groggy from the anesthetic. This is not something I've seen after any of the 4 evacuations TiTi had.

I think you said the vet probed about a lot and she was very uncomfortable. Is it possible that:
1. He was looking for something that concerned him
2. He was just a bit too rough and she'll recover just fine.
3. Of course, I don't know what is wrong and it's good that you are returning to the vet.
