Yeah!!! Nice surf for China today so far anyway! I was really concerned that bringing Mom's cat home would cause some stress and affect her numbers but so far, things seem to be good. Of course Miss Kitty is alone in a spare bedroom, so not interacting with the 3 I have, but they know she's there. She was going crazy home alone with only occasional visits to feed, so when Mom had to go to the neurologist on Monday, we stopped by her house to get her. She refused to come out from under the bed for me every time I went to try to get her, so hoped she'd come out for mom. She still didn't come out, but with both of us on the floor trying to get her, she did move close enough for mom to scruff her and then I helped pull her out. She's so starved for attention! I wish I could let her out among everyone else, but she's not going to stay here forever (that's the plan anyway) and at this point, it's not worth the trouble it would cause to try to introduce another adult cat into my mix.

She was also a kitten of an FIV mom that I had in foster care. Mom and Dad took her knowing that, and knowing it'd be best for her to be in a single cat household. The rescue group I was fostering for had decided that the kittens would (regrettably) have to be euthanized because they would never be able to guarantee their health or find homes for possible FIV+ kitties, but it broke my heart to consider that, so I asked for time. I called the vet school in Columbia, MO and asked if they knew anyone who might want a "free" Maine Coon kitten, and be willing to take them knowing the possibilities of FIV. The man I talked to said that he seriously doubted it because they had kittens offered all the time but he would ask. I understood that, but told him I'd appreciate it if he'd at least ask around. Three days later, he called with the BEST news ever!! The other 4 kittens all had homes with vet students that would do all the testing (and possible treatment) they could need and would love to have them! That weekend, I took the lucky 4 there and met the students that would become their furever mommy's :-D :-D :-D I had asked for a miracle, and I'd gotten one!

Sorry for going off topic, but I just love that story and wanted to share it!

Hope all your kitties are doing well today, and for those that aren't, I'm sending lots of vines to each of you!

Don't apologize for that story! Kindness needs to be celebrated - thank you for spreading it around!

That's a wonderful story. I hope your mom's kitty is doing okay. What great numbers for China today.

Thanks for the visits Lara, Catherine, Tara and Carla! I'm glad you enjoyed my story!

At one time, I had over 30 cats between my own and fosters. Not only was that time in my life a lot of work, it was also one of the most rewarding things I'd ever done. People often ask me how I could do it and not fall in love with each one. My answer was that I always knew in my heart, that if they were "meant" to be with me, I'd know, and if their "Purrfect" family was somebody else, that's where they had always belonged and it wasn't right for me to deprive them of the best home they could have. Luckily, one of my responsibilities (other than just being a foster) was to screen possible adopters, so I had the final say in who adopted my fosters. I still hear from some of my adoptive parents and get pictures and notes on how they're doing.

Of course there were times of heartbreak too, but overall, they were few and far between. The worst thing I ever had to do was take a kitten in to be euthanized but this poor thing was really suffering and there just wasn't anything left to do for her. She had FIP and although I'd done everything possible to help her, it wasn't meant to be. Having been through that once was enough for me, which is why I was so adamant that I would not put these 5 kittens down until EVERY possible avenue had been tried.

China's doing great today too...looks like once again, she does best on 1 unit, and I'm going to wait until she goes below 50 on 3 cycles or below 40 before reducing her again. If she requires insulin the rest of her life, that's a small price to pay for all she's done for me through the years. If she's able to go OTJ at some point, that's great too!

You have such a great, and loving attitude. I feel exactly the same about my cat, too.

Very nice #'s for China and thanks for sharing that great story ♥ I was so convinced that Hoot would be back in remission in no time, but that hasn't happened and I now feel the same way. If he never goes again, it's ok, if he does thats great too cat_pet_icon
