I just noticed that the last ss entry was 10/5. It worries me to make suggestions based on old data and it so much better to look at the whole "forest" rather than just "1 or 2 trees". Thanks! :-D

I'm updating it now! It's very hard to find time to use the real computer, and a total pain in the arse to update the ss using my phone! Everything was basically the same...up until this morning!

changing meters can definitely give very different readings, especially if one is an animal meter vs a human meter. I switched from Freestyle to Maxima and all readings were 30-80 points higher. For several days I used both to compare. Its best to stick with one and remember they are showing general trends, NOT exact numbers. In my mind when I see a 20-30 point difference, I almost consider it the same number.

I still haven't gotten new strips for my true track. Once I do, I'll do a comparison of the 2 meters. I guess I would expect the more expensive meter (freestyle) to be more accurate, but I logically know that's not always the case!

I seem to remember hearing/reading something about the true track as not being very reliable/ consistant, but I could be wrong. Is that the one from walgreens, or some other drug store chain? You might want to put a search into the main health board and see if it is mentioned.

Many folks like the relion from Sams/walmart. the strips are $18/$20 /50 strips.

The Maxima from Hocks is similarly reliable IMO, and strips are $16.50 /50

and actually the $$$ Freestyle (older version that I had) was written up as not very accurate on kitty blood. I think the newer version might be better. but I love love love the lancet pen that came with it and still use that exclusively.

I used the Freestyle Lite and ended up really liking it. I preferred it over my OTU mainly because it required so little blood. The strips were about the same price purchased at various online retailers [about $25-$28/50 to my door]. Accuracy wise I did have a small personal bias for the OTU - particularly at higher numbers.

My freestyle lite strips were over $70, I think it was 100 strips, but still that's a lot of money compared to my true track! Once I get new tt strips I'll compare them. If the results are similar, I'm gonna stick with the tt for the cost issue alone. I plan to pass the other one on to the newbie kits. I also prefer the sipping of the tt strips over the sponging of the fsl strips. I'm sure I could find them online cheaper, but I'm a procrastinator so it's easier for me to get them at stores.

FWIW i have so many random meters here and i've tested nearly every brand against each other on the very same drop of tom's blood. at different times of course. the only one that came in consistanty (every single time) high by about 30 points was contour. except with numbers below 150 or so...then it was the same. all the other meters ran the same against each other within a couple of points.
and unfortunatly newbie kits biggest collection of meters happens to be.....contour!

That's great to know! Thanks Lori. Everyone seems to really like whatever meter they use, so knowing that theres not much difference is reassuring. Your collection will include a non-contour by next week.

Claudia,
if you notice the green box at the top, HOCKS
they saved me a lot of money on Freestyle strips when I started here. I noticed they also have true trac strips so you can compare. stock up and Order early because delivery can be erratic, esp on orders placed at the end of the week. Shipping is free if you buy like over $70? and it helps the fdmb if you click the green box above to get there. heres a link directly to the strip prices.
