punkin's not looking too perky today - i'm wondering if he's not feeling so great. we went up on his dose last night because we realized that this lantus is probably not at full strength anymore. it's got tiny, tiny bubbles in the vial and we took it in the car to colorado and back for his treatment. he just snuggled up to anya for her to groom him. she was licking his head, but is now on my lap.

the CSU folks gave us prednisone for him if he showed signs of a headache/swelling. it's been about 2 weeks - not sure if we should use it or not.

i'm attaching the powerpoint that the CSU student, Chris, prepared and showed to the Vet School yesterday. It's a combination of funny and educational. i'm very happy that at least one group of vet students will have heard something about feline diabetes while they were in school.

i do have to say that the giant cat picture is NOT punkin! he's big, but not THAT big!

well . . . i'm not attaching the powerpoint. it's too big for FDMB. i'll have to figure out what to do with it and share it later.

Re: 10/8 punkin amps 188

Julie - did they give you an idea of when to expect a headache or swelling after the treatment or how to measure that in a cat? If not, could you call them? Increased intercranial pressure in humans is a big deal...we don't have any extra room in our skulls, so even slight swelling creates a lack of oxygen condition - not sure if it's the same in animals. For humans, you typically see an increase blood pressure, a decreased heart rate and an increased temperature.....

Re: 10/8 punkin amps 188

thanks jessica - i'll email the vet. she's great about responding asap. he doesn't seem awful, just a little off.

Poor punk punkin and poor worried beans. We have paws crossed it "just one of those days" and he is bossing you around again soon. :YMHUG:

Re: 10/8 punkin amps 188

Just want to add my good thoughts that Punkin is just having one of those days. Please keep us posted.

Re: 10/8 punkin amps 188

Awww...feel better Punkin.

Dang, I wanted to see the slideshow about Punkin.

Curry said she would like his autograph. She thinks he's a pretty cool dude.

Re: 10/8 punkin amps 188

I hope Punkin feels better soon. And I hope you find a way to share the PP. I really am looking forward to seeing it.

Re: 10/8 punkin amps 188

Hi Julie, just checking in to see if you heard anything back from the vet or to see if Punkin's feeling any better....I've been thinking about you guys today :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Sending many healing vines to Punkin and hope he feels better soon. What a great amount of info and super resource you have put together, Julie.

spent the day in portland delivering quilts to the show later this week - but i did get emails back from both the CSU vet and the radiation oncologist. punkin seems fine now - i think it was probably just ordinary down stuff, maybe insulin or BG related. poor guy, i think i just have him under a microscope.

the docs said that if he were reacting to the radiation with brain swelling, it probably would've happened within the first 2 weeks, not now. we're a little past 2 weeks.

got the new insulin in time for tonight's dose - we dropped it back to last week's dose so that if the old insulin was significantly degraded he won't plummet. rather have him a little high than too low to manage.

thanks for checking in - i think i'm just being paranoid. ohmygod_smile i think he's ok.

anyone know how to reduce the size of the file of a powerpoint presentation turned into a pdf?

I still tend to keep Champ under a microscope, but it has helped me to catch things before they got out of hand. Punkin will only benefit from you keep an eye on him. Of course, it does give us extra gray hairs, but that's what Clairol is for, right?!!!

Re: 10/8 punkin amps 188 +5/204 pmps 222

I watch Morgaine like a hawk. I call out for her a few times during the night and she comes running in and hops into my bed, just to let me know she is okay. I think our kitties are fortunate to have such doting mama beans and papa beans in some cases. So glad Punkin is feeling better. Having elevated BG makes me feel pretty crappy so I imagine our kitties respond in a similar way.
