Sorry, I haven’t been checking in. My granddaughter has been back in the hospital again.

I really screwed up today :-( Watson did not eat enough breakfast apparently and I gave him his normal 2.5 units and he had a bad crash. When he hit 40, we headed for the veterinary hospital where he got IV glucose. I tried to handle it at home, feeding him high carb things, and it would go up a little and then crash right back down. This lesson cost me $656 and a huge scare.
Since Watson will not consistently eat the low carb food, I am thinking about just going back to the fancy piece medley that I know he will eat better and maybe just adjusting his insulin accordingly

Any thoughts on this?

Reduce to 2.25. He sure shot up. I think that would have happened if you continued to feed hc at home. You need a high carb wet food to add to your food choices. Churros are not hc. When they keep dipping you need something they love that’s at least 20% carbs.

Sorry about your granddaughter.

@tiffmaxee The hospital said only give him 1.5 tonight. I did give him turkey with gravy but he would barely eat any. I even tried squirting some of the gravy into his mouth with a syringe.

He’s bouncing like I expected. You could have given 2.25. If he wasn’t bouncing the 1.5 makes more sense. No worries.

Hi Rosie, I’m sorry your granddaughter is back in the hospital. Sending prayers for her healing and recovery.
I’m also sorry to hear of your say with sweet Watson yesterday.
You both had a rough day. :(
It’s good you are so attentive to him.
Wishing you both good luck with the reduced dose and feeding.
Hugs to both of you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Staci & Ivy @tiffmaxee
We had another scare today. Checked him at 12:40 (+2.5) and he was at 215. Took my granddaughter to the doctor and got back at 2:30 (+4.5) and he was at 59. I guess I will be reducing again tonight down to 2.0 At least this time after a couple tries, I was able to get his blood sugar to stay up, hope it stays that way, as I have an appointment tonight and will be gone for about 4 hours.

I hope Watson stays steady while you are out, Rosie.
Did you give him some higher carbs since you went out?
