Looks like he's back down to a better AMPS today. +2 was very similar to yesterday's, but he went up at +3 which is a bit different.

I'm currently keeping an eye on a spot on his chin that was acne that he itched and has now scabbed over. It doesn't look red or infected, just a large scab that I I am keeping intact and applying chlorhexidine to the surrounding to keep clean. I may look into switching his ceramic dishes over to metal, but its hard finding one with a similar design to what he's been using for years, with the slight elevation and tilt forward:

Poor Xander! From what I've read, cat acne is not always caused by food bowls (and generally they say to switch from plastic to metal as the plastic gets grooves which can harbor bacteria leading to the acne bumps). There can be several other contributors (I believe the actual cause is unknown), among them allergies and lack of grooming.

Good luck with finding a new food bowl and, ultimately, with finding something that clears up his breakout.

Good point, I have food allergies on my vet to ask list. No ingredients have changed lately, but I know allergies can just spontaneously happen sometimes. He is a messy eater.
I thought the ceramic bowls should be fine, but I am wondering if they may be becoming a bit more porous over time. I wash them out several times a day, but have noticed they sometimes start with a wet dog odor, then I put them sanitizing in the dishwasher.

Previously I had good luck clearing up a spot of acne on the side of his mouth with witch hazel, but I ended up missing this spot since its on the very bottom of his chin until he ended up scratching into it
