Fitzel's Last Condo

I'd appreciate it if someone can take a look at Fitzel's SS and give me some general thoughts. WCR - LB habits fine. Water consumtion fine. Appy iffy. Not good even with FortiFlora or Bonita flakes - but eventually she will eat. She's getting about 4 to 5 oz a day into her tums. Playing - not so much. Preening - not as much as I'd like. Her furr is scruffy and she's not taking as good care of it as she used to.

We've been off the board for awhile as Fitzel has been trying to navigate the kitten and it's slow integration into the household. She's on a VERY non-conformist shot schedule. I'm shooting when her numbers warrent. I've upped her dosage from 1 drop to .15u - this squeezes out to be mostly 3 drops. She doesn't seem to be crashing off the increase which is good. I've tried to put in the notes on the SS how many hours have passed between shots.

I want to say that my own health issues have impacted her testing and shooting. Judith has been in and out of town so I've been on my own quite a bit and unfortunately, my eyesight is failing. (a new issue which is extremely scary and very, very inconvienent). Right now I can't focus up close without the jeweler's loupe and it's not always as helpful as I wish it was. I'm hopeful this issue will be able to be mitigated, but for now, this is where things are.

Fitzel is very sensitive to what's happening with me, so I know my upset has translated to her and exaserbated her issues with Amma. (the kitten).

This is such an out of the box kitty I'm feeling my way to a program for her that at least resembles something close to TRP.

Thank you in advance.
Shai

Her feeding schedule is built around her insulin shots when she's getting them, otherwise she's fed 4 small meals a day - mostly FF classics, Evo and Tikki. Our HC is Friskies with gravy and our MC is FF shredded or flaked.

Re: 10/4 Fitzel - +18 AMPS-217 (eyes requested)

Hi Shai! Missed you on here..... glad to see you back!
As you know, I'm no expert on this, but I do seem to remeber reading that as long as the BG numbers are 200 and under, it's very close to normal and no organ damage is occuring to Fitzel. And don't forget there is lots of variance with the testing meters, so even a 240 could be OK.
I'm sure one of the experts will be here soon to help!
I just wanted to say HI and hope things get better for you in every way!

Hi Shai, Glad you are back. I am no expert and can't advise on dosing. I too recall reading somewhere that organ risk is bg above 200 over a period of time, our vet cites >300 on vet lab test as the threshold. I hope the wise ones come along soon to help guide you. Sorry about your vision issues, must be very scary and aggravating, hugs and vines and hope you get some relief.

The only way to actually know if your cat is below renal threshold (kidneys are among the first organs effected by diabetes), is to get some Ketodiastix and do urine glucose testing. If there's no spilling of glucose into the urine, then your cat ls below renal threshold. The number varies from cat to cat. It can be as low as 180 or somewhere in the lower 200s.

Re: 10/4 Fitzel - +18 AMPS-217 (eyes requested)

@Chris & Leslie & Sienne - thank you for stopping by and for your observations and suggestions. This is exactly what I was asking for.
I tried CVS for ketone strips and was told I needed a script. I haven't tried RiteAid or Walgreens yet. Has anyone been asked to get a prescription for these?
Again thank you
Shai

No script needed. Walmart has them right next to the BG meter test strips.

Re: 10/4 Fitzel - +18 AMPS-217 (eyes requested)

What I was referring to aren't Ketostix. They test for urinary ketones only. Ketodiastix test for both ketones and urinary glucose. If you need a prescription, you live in the only place where you need one. Try on-line.

I bought my Ketodiastix at CVS and must admit it took quite a bit of confirming I wanted Ketodiastix and not Ketostix for them to even check if they had them. Sure enough, they keep them behind the counter (which means most of the desk workers have no clue). One reason I rarely shop at CVS.
