Re: 10/31 Paisley AMPS/234, +4.25/373, +8.75/356, +11/342

you got me completely curious about your paranormal house experience. stories?

what a nice menagerie you've got - lots of kitters who needed a good home! looks like they found it! i always thought i would just have 1 cat until i fell in love with punkin. already had felix, who we loved, but felix wasn't a lap cat and i REALLY wanted a snuggler. the two of them bonded right away - it took months for punkin to trust me.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

Paisley got annoyed with her shot and moved just as I was giving it. There's a possibility it didn't go subQ because the needle was bent. That probably came from pressure from her front leg on the needle. Do I need to be worried about this? Do I need to CONTINUE to be worried about this? (more appropriate) It's a few minutes after 5pm right now. I have to leave around 5:45pm for about an hour.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

bumping your post for more experienced eyes...
I can only offer that twice I have done the same with Binks...with no ill effects...
maybe others can offer more insight...

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

i would assume that the worst that would happen is that she didn't get all the insulin and might therefore be higher than otherwise. basically it's a fur shot - which happens to everyone. personally, i don't think i'd worry but see if anyone else has thoughts to offer.

not like you can do anything about it after the fact. definitely don't reshoot.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

the more i think about it the more i think you don't need to worry. you could probably take the 911 icon off of your post.

or maybe i should ask what you are concerned about? is it that she might have gotten hurt? is she bleeding at all or tender if you push in the shot area?

if it's worry about missing some of the insulin just count it as a fur shot. and let it go - you'll get back on track tomorrow.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

Hi there!

I agree with Julie - chalk it up to a possible fur shot.
I've had that happen to me w/BK (me and my steady hands  )

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

Lylene,

I agree with Julie. She might not have gotten all the insulin, but don't reshoot. You could take a test before you leave and one when you get back. That will give you more of an idea if she got all the insulin. If not tomorrows a new day. Paisley will be fine.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

I agree, don't reshoot. If numbers are high in the AM you may be able to consider shooting a little early but that will impact your PM time, too. The shed should help.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

so now I can post what I've been waiting to say...

after catching up on the latter part of your condo from yesterday...

i can say that there is truly a human guardian angel at work saving kitties in Michigan.
i am humbled by your selfless action, lylene...

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

Brilliant idea.... call the pharmacist. This was a sub pharmacist so it'll be interesting what John or Steph will hear. :) He said it might hurt a little bit for a couple days if it went into muscle but shouldn't cause damage.

Thanks everybody.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

i think i hit muscle on punkin a couple of times - and believe me, he let me know about it. quite the yelp - i guess that's very painful. if paisley didn't yell at you, you might've missed it.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320 Bent needle

She didn't yelp but she is giving me evil looks. Probably stayed subq but hurt a bit. I always feel the fur after the shot for dampness and give a gentle rub. I skipped the gentle rub but did feel the fur but no dampness so it stayed in. I like my hand intact and she didn't look too interested in gentle rubs.

Thanks Bink's mom. Bink's a pretty lucky cat, too I'd say. I think all the cats on here are lucky. I know that not all diabetic cats even get a chance to work on having an OTJ party, even if they miss their own party. (Barry's still pouting but was happy to celebrate year 2 a couple days late. :-D )

Quick test and then off to pick up 2 beaver carcasses and some muskrat. DH bought a used freezer this afternoon. Gonna be an interesting night.

For the haunted house... I felt a strong pull to the third floor and the tower there. It was a Christmas Tour of Homes and I was assigned to an old Victorian that that had been restored. They hadn't done much to the tower other than basic repairs. When the UPPRS did their investigation, they found a lot of activity on the third floor, especially in the tower. Someone loved it very much and spent a lot of time there, IMHO. Sometime I'll talk more in detail to one of the investigators but we've both been pretty busy. I didn't listen to that broadcast so I never heard any of what they found, which is why we both want to discuss it.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253

Made it home for a +3. She seems ok. She was happy to be ungrounded from her room. As I was getting stuff together to leave she decided to chase Willow down the driveway and was going to follow her down the round. I yelled at her and she stopped. Then I told her to go to her room. Bet the neighbors just shook their heads if they heard. She knew she was in trouble and headed back to the house.

2 beavers and 3 muskrats to clean tonight. I was outside with the big shiny meat cleaver. Good thing it's Halloween. It was interesting to watch the guy working on them. Not my thing, though.

Back at +6

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253, +9/96 (free feed

Paisley's +6 was only 96 and she has been eating (free feeding) for the past hour and a half or so plus fed at +3. I'm thinking we're looking at a drop again. Any thoughts?

You mean a drop in BG or a drop in the dose?

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253, +9/96 (free feed

I was thinking she was going to drop BG again tonight. What is it with the PM?

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253, +9/96 (free feed

I don't know the reason, but a lot of kitties run lower on the PM cycles.

Do you have any idea how long Paisley has been diabetic?

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253, +9/96 (free feed

I just took a really good look at her ss. There's definitely a pattern going on. She's going to drop tonight.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253, +9/96 (free feed

Sandy, she went into the shelter 5/4/11. Blood work on 5/5 shows a BG of 395. Handwritten on the blood work says "diabetic" and ordered insulin (humalin or NPH). Fluids for a few days were also ordered. Glucose levels continued to be in the 300's despite increased insulin. DCIN stepped in the middle of June and got her on Lantus and home testing. I got her July 26. I'll email the vet tech at the shelter and see if she knows any history. I only see that she was a relinquish.

interesting story about the house! i'd sure want to hear the story too.

you must've been mighty scary with a meat cleaver out on halloween! i'd pass your house by if i was out for trick or treating!

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253, +6/96,+7/114 +

+7 was 114. She's sleeping.

I just sent off an email to Jessica, the vet tech who cared for Paisley at the shelter. She put Paisley on Craig's List where Venita found her and DCIN got involved. I also gave her the url to Paisley's SS.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320, +1/357, +3/253, +6/96, +7/114

So she was 96 at +6, not +9...

Yeah, I'm wondering if Paisley is a long term (over 1 year) diabetic.

Re: 10/31 Paisley PMPS/320,+1/357,+3/253,+6/96,+7/114,+9/303

+9/303 Bit of a jump. She ate a fair amount of food so that will have some increase.

It's possible that she has been diabetic for a while. Her 5/5/11 blood work has her as 4 yrs old and weighing 6.0 lbs. 6/22/11 she's 6# 11oz and had just recently started Lantus. 7/12/11 she's 8# 3oz. I'll see if I can get all of her paperwork and blood work scanned.

Maybe Jessica can tell us something more. It looks like she wasn't in the greatest of health. When I took her in to the vet, except for glucose, everything was fine.

Miss P. is curled up behind me right now. The shot incident and being grounded twice are forgiven for the moment. cat_pet_icon

My sink area is fitting for Halloween. All four muskrats are cleaned and double ground. I got some really bizarre pics on my cell phone to boot. Only appropriate for Halloween or biology class. Now the question.... Is this love or insanity? Probably the latter.

Little Brother is happy. I gave the cats a chance to have a taste. It has a rather strong smell and got strange expressions from everyone except LB. He inhaled it. Barry likes the tail because it makes a great toy to attack and kill. Unlike his other toys, he can't keep this one.

I think I need sleep. or meds. haha_smiley
