Beautiful numbers Shadow. Good luck with the new dose.
Shadow looks like he's on a mission.

Nice surf for Shadow today!!

Looks like we might have finally come up with a good dose..at least for now!

Loved Shadow's story! Every cat I've ever had came from a shelter or rescue. I used to be a foster home for Maine Coon Rescue but before I started that, China picked me when my oldest son and I stopped by the shelter "to look at the kitties". Each cat I've adopted has chosen me, not the other way around. My son fell in love with a silver manx at the same time, so I tapped on the glass to get the shelter workers attention and motioned "Two for one today??"....And of course they said YES!! China and Smokey came home with us that day.

We lost Smokey several years ago. He was a really beautiful cat, and so very soft. I think he might have had some British Shorthair in him because of the coloring, the coat and the shape of his face. One day he was hacking a little (like they do when they have a hairball) so I didn't think much of it. Within an hour, I could tell something else was wrong and raced him to the vet. He died less than 30 minutes later from a massive blood clot. To this day, I still blame myself, although I know I did nothing wrong.

Each of our kitties story is special in it's own way, so there's no such thing as "for what it's worth"...Shadow's story is one of love, sacrifice and caring...qualities this world can always use more of

I haven't visited Shadow yet. Just dropping in to say hi. Shadow is one lucky kitty to have you. I hope this dose is a good one for him.

These are such gorgeous numbers. He did beautifully on this dose. You couldn't ask for better. I would try to keep on him this a little while to give some extra support to his pancreas. But it does look like he is heading that direction (anti-jinx)

Steven I read your story, and if you stated already i couldn't recall, but for that year, what was his usual dose what had you worked up to? You were on 1.5U I think when you came here just 10 days or so ago.
What a remarkable 'catch' and turnaround.
IS this the same vet you had before..what does he think about what you have accomplished?

Continued beautiful sailing for shawdow!!

Actually Shadow is a lucky guy. For the the last few months I've been working out of town, relying on a diabetic friend who lives in my neighborhood to give him shots and play with him a bit. When I was gone, he was eating Hill Dm dry food from an auto feeder which is OK but not the best. On weekends I took care of him and gave him wet food. He has pancreatitis and according to my vet his diabetes may stem from that. If his pancreas is flaring up he needs more insulin. If not, he may need less or possibly even none. I was using Glucotest squares to monitor for sugar, but I wasn't always on top of it to be honest and didn't really get how dangerous hypogycemia was. I should have, because years ago I saw a cat seizure, although at the time I had no idea what caused it. Anyway, my helper was giving him 2 units twice a day for awhile and I had just dropped him to 1.5 units shortly before he started showing hypo signs. Luckily I had stopped working out of town and was here to do the syrup thing etc. I am thankful this site alerted me to the benefits and safety of home testing. Hell, my friend tests herself at least twice a day so why shouldn't cats?

My vet is actually very competent, but she was unaware of my work situation. She is not aware of what I've been doing in detail although she knows I've started home testing and actually told me to consider doing 0.5 units or no insulin at all based on the glucotest results. She is not big on DIY diabetes control, because in her experience people don't stick with it. I will though, that I will assure you and her.

Thanks, Steven, for sharing Shadow's amazing story. How wonderful for you to give him a home, so much love, and treating his diabetes.

His numbers are looking really great!
