Re: 10/30 Apollo AMBG 116

very nice. Can you maybe get a +4 after feeding today to see if he his lower after food?

So are you calling him OTJ yet? He hasn't had a shot in a long time and is holding his own, are you ready for a party?

Sure I can get a +4 today.

Well not sure if I should call him OTJ yet? He is holding his own and his numbers are really good at this point, but I am wondering if it would be be best to give him 0.1 units twice a day to see if we can get him in the greens each and everyday?

The reason I stopped giving the juice in the first place was his lack of eating enough food consistently each day, but as each day went by with no juice his little body responded and he has been holding his own. That's where we are at now. So I am torn to just leave things be or try to get him a little lower still.

Question 1: When a cat goes OTJ is it ok if his numbers are where Apollo has been the last week or so or should I try to get him lower? I am thrilled with his numbers from where he was before we started this process, but I just don't want to stop him short if there is a benefit to try to bring him a bit lower? Or are his current numbers just fine?

Question 2: I just noticed that the Lifelink Xobaline B12 pill I have been giving him each day is the one with fructose in it and NOT the "Zobaline" one for cats. That could also be raising his BG a little too each day. Is that ok to keep giving or should I get the "Zobaline" one and throw the other away? Or is it such a small amount it's not a big deal?

Re: 10/30 Apollo AMBG 116, few questions

I wouldn't be giving the Xobaline prep that has sugar. Why risk it?

Also, I think the Natural Balance foods are fairly high in carbs.

Yeah I just wasn't sure if it was ok to just use them up instead of tossing them out. Trying to save some money there is all.

I read somewhere that the Natural Balance Venison & Green Pea Formula was ok to give. The other ones they make were not good, but that one flavor was ok. I'm just trying as many different options as I can to try to find one he really liked. Regardless he didn't really care for it much, so it's off the list going forward anyways.

Re: 10/30 Apollo AMBG 116, +4 87

Just posted Apollo's +4 87.

Btw one thing I noticed is now that Apollo's BG is in the normal ranges he sure does fight me more for ear poke tests. When his BG was high he pretty much laid there and let me do whatever I wanted.

I've heard this several times from others whose kitties' BG numbers are normalizing. It is as if they are telling you, "hey, I'm good, now leave my ears alone!"

Hi, John ~

Love that 87 for Apollo! All of your wakeful days and sleepless nights have paid off wonderfully for you and for him...great job, John! Our cat Willie remained in remission with numbers like Apollo's, although she dropped into double digits too. My husband and I made the decision not to use Lantus unless she started creeping up to 150, but that never happened. But ECID, the old Every Cat is Different.

Take care,
Eva

That 87 at +4 is wonderful. It suggests that his body is doing its thing. I am not an advisor either so I'd wait for the experts but clearly he is doing very well. Congrats to you for such great perseverance. I know it wore you out and your love for this kitty is paying off. Apollo is a lucky dude!

Apollo's PMBG is 123.

Gave him a Fancy Feast White Meat Chicken & Flaked Tuna Appetizer for lunch. He ate almost the whole thing as usual.

Gave him Blue Buffalo Wilderness Turkey for PM feeding. He ate a decent amount, but nothing major.

Both of these statements make me believe that Apollo is ready to be OTJ. The week Lucy went OTJ, I actually had to drag her out from under the bed for tests and shots. I had never had to do that before. She knew! Even Jazzy started to struggle against her shots toward the end. She still needed the insulin, but not nearly as much as before.

His pancreas seems to be working, and I think adding insulin to the mix right now might actually be more risk than it is worth.

So congratulations!!! I know CD/BigMac asked you for pictures, so get those in to her so we can have a party.
