 Yay! What a way to start the day. cat_pet_icon We're feeling very comfortable right now. Thanks to our Lantus friends! Blessings on all of you. Will continue to post. You know, Gandy eats every 2-3 hours. We go through a 13 oz. can of Sophisticat a day, sometimes a little more and he loves it soupy (he really likes his gravy...its just added water, I don't get the "gravy" types), but compared to some(5.5 oz. a day + snacks) I read it sounds like a lot. I'm watching his weight. What do you think? Have a wonderful Sunday.

Nice amps today! Not too sure what to tell you on the food - it does sound like alot. Mannie goes through about 6oz on a normal day , however days where I am juggling numbers it can be more.

I am so glad to read that things are better for you today. And more comfortable. YAY!

That's a lot of food! How much doe he weigh?
But I'm glad to hear you spread it out.
Remember no food after +10 in either cycle, so you don't get a food influenced pre shot number.

Nice AMPS today and happy to see you are feeling better.
Welcome to the Lantus forum Cee and Gandolf!

Re: 10/3 Gandolf AMPS 229 (1.5U)

Oh! Well, today's AMPS were definitely influenced by the food cause I fed around 7:15 but waited to do his reading till time to shoot. Will monitor that better starting today.

Gandolf weighs 15 -16 lbs. He use to weigh 25.I'm watching his weight closely with this food change, and have watched it closely for awhile. He loves it. There was no transition from dry to wet. He was on board from can #1. He's almost 10 years old, a tabby male and a Hurricane Katrina survivor. He swam for his life. It's quite a story. This guy is a survivor. Thank you for your oversight. Truly another swim for his life.

Re: 10/3 Gandolf AMPS 229 (1.5U)

Great start to the day! Sounds like you can breathe again.

It's hard to know if this is the right amount of food for Gandolf. Many cats have a ravenous appetite until their BG levels are better regulated. It's fine to provide as much food as they want since early in this process, their bodies aren't getting the nutrition they need. Because insulin helps glucose (i.e., what food is broken down into) enter the cells where it can be utilized, a diabetic cat will lose weight and be hungry all of the time. The flip side is that obesity contributes to diabetes.

Dr. Lisa's website on feline nutrition has this formula for how to calculate your cat's daily caloric needs:
Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70
A 12 lb cat needs about 230 calories per day.

oh wow, I must of missed the background on him...did you post that story somewhere on the board?
What a special boy he is! I remember the news on Katrina, especially the pets of Katrina.

You are wonderful for taking him in Cee. I'd love to hear the story...you can PM me if you don't want to post it here. We (Houston) received many animals and folks as a result of Katrina. Glad you were able to help out with your sweetie.

So Gandolf is a swimmer. Quite a gifted fella. 2012 Olympic material?

What a special boy! There were so many displaced animals and animals that drowned or starved to death. One day, please tell his story. You are so lucky to have found one another.
