Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing fine.
Max is eating and drinking. He went outside for a bit. I tested him and was relieved to find he is still OTJ.
Max's tumor has reduced in size; I am sure of it. I think it had a fair amount of fluid in it, and that fluid must have leaked out after the aspiration. He doesn't seem to have suffered any ill effects from this. Apparently, some tumors have digestive enzymes in them, and if they leak it can be detrimental for those enzymes to get into the cavity. Some have hormones in them that will absorb into the bloodstream and cause blood pressure problems. So far, so good.
My vet doesn't come back to work until tomorrow. I'm worried that Max will have suffered from metabolic acidosis too long if he in fact has it. However, the vet said that his office has the gas chromography machine to do the test, but does not have the cartridges. I'm not sure if I should be proactive about thils or if I should sit tight until tomorrow. Metabolic acidosis can be life threatening just like ketoacidosis. However, Max has not thrown up yet. I suppose if he does we can go to the vet then or go to ER.
My thoughts are with everyone on the Eastern Seaboard and their babies, both furbabies and otherwise!
