Good Morning LL,

Well Leo had a good weekend at DGP's, DGpa and i had some miscommunication on Saturday and i thought he was shooting Leo and he thought i was shooting Leo, end result was Leo got his supper and needle just over 3 hours late :o Leo was patiently waiting for someone to give him his insulin and supper and didn't mind too much. After that debacle Leo is finally back on schedule, but his pretty blue numbers have been all messed up!

We got home last night and today is the big vetty appointment at the U of S veterinary college!! I told him we were going to see the doctor today but i don't think its quite sunk in yet where we'll be going. We'll be there around +7 so i'll update as soon as we get back. Fingers, toes and paws crossed that everything turns out good at the vet.

We had a good test, shoot and feed this morning, complete with a little tour around the yard.

I hope everyone on the east coast is staying safe and have a great day.

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252

Hi Tracy, oh that happens and looks like Leo will get back on track. Maggie is keeping Leo company on the yellow floor. Sending good Vetty vines for Leo today. Refresh my memory, as I haven't had Mannie's coffee yet. What test is Leo having today, or is it a checkup? I'm sorry as I should know. We will watch for updates

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252

Good morning!! That has definitely happened to us before. No harm no foul. Nice sunny start for Leo today. Good vetty visit vines coming your way. Have a great day Tracy!

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252

Whoopsie! I'm sure Leo will get back on track in those nice blues before you know it.

Sending good vetty vines your way...we're anxiously awaiting the report!

Morning Tracy ~O) ~O) ~O)

oh no on the mess up on Saturday. It happens, but at least you have made the time up, and Leo doesn't seem any worse for wear. I bet he gets those pretty numbers back soon. Right Leo? Blues again, K?

Good luck with Leo's vetty appt. I hope that goes well. Update when you can.

Have a great day today!

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252

Could be worse - you both could have given him his shot!! We have 2 diabetic cats ( tiggy and Bailey). Tiggy gets 4.5Iu and Bailey 0.1. I am always worried one of these days I will give each the wrong shot... Tiggy would be ok but Bailey would be a emergency vet trip!

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223

@ Ann, we are going to the vetty to see a specialist to see about Leo's elevated liver enzymes. We do need to have an ultrasound done and i'm hoping that will take place today but i'm not sure. I hope to get some answers today.

I keep telling Leo we are going to the vet and he keeps purring!!

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 off to the vet

Leo is such a trooper, purring for a vet visit! Paws crossed for a good vetty report.

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 off to the vet

Paws crossed here for a good vetty visit. I hope you can get into the U/S today if it's needed. How sweet that he purrs when you say "vet"!

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 going for ultrasound

Well my little buddy is still at the vet, he's waiting to go in for an ultrasound. We saw a very french vetty (she was extremely hard to understand) who said that basically they won't find anything on ultrasound.......hmmmmm  I don't know if i believe that. She said its most likely an inflamed bile duct from just looking at his blood work, and said that treatment for such is prednisolone. I asked about ursidol and denamarin and she told me that is what's used to treat dogs with bile duct disorders. I don't think i trust/like this doctor. But we'll take the ultrasound and get the results to Andrea, who is much easier to understand and willing to try different things. I think for a diabetic kitty prednisolone would be a last resort kind of med. He's also getting a urinanalysis done while he's there. He has to be sedated because they said he wasn't cooperating all that well for his exam.

I'm at home alone and it seems so empty here without Leo, i think i'll grab a book and go wait for him at the vet.

BBL will update when we get home.

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 going for an ultrasound

Tracy and Leo, thinking of you. Glad you were able to get the U/S done today. Sending good Vetty vines for Leo and will be waiting for your update.

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 going for an ultrasound

That's what I would do is grab a book and wait in the waiting room.

I wish you the best with the ultrasound.

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 going for an ultrasound

Paws crossed for good results! Just sitting at home sucks. I hope Dr Andrea can give you some good answers tomorrow.

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 going for an ultrasound

Still waiting for my guy. He's all finished up with ultrasound and urinanalysis, both his student and doctor were called to an emergency so no one has talked to the radiologist about their findings. So I'm waiting, at this point Leo is going to miss his 6:00 shot time!

Re: 10/29 Leo AMPS 252, +4 223 going for an ultrasound

Hi Tracy,
Wow, what a day you have had (and are having). I hope that you'll get to speak with the radiologist soon so you can get your boy home and give him his shot (and his DINNER)! We are thinking of you (good thoughts) and hope that you will have some answers soon.

Love and hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 10/29 Leo PMPS 126 & back from vet

Well the ultrasound went well, but they didn't find anything!!! I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. The clinician that did the ultrasound had left by the time the student and doctor were out of their emergency so they couldn't talk to them. They did however get another clinician to look at the ultrasound and he did not see anything of importance, all he said was that Leo's liver looked fine and healthy, and his pancreas looks good as well!! So i asked what that means - having an ultrasound find nothing, it means there are no tumours, no nodules, his bile duct looks good, gallbladder looks good, no thickening anywhere on his liver or pancreas. So the doctor suggested that we do a fine-needle aspiration of Leo's liver to look at the cells to see if that turns anything up, she wanted us to come back tomorrow for it! I'd like to talk to Andrea about it first and see what she thinks, plus i don't want to have to put Leo thru another day at the vet tomorrow......poor guy. I booked Leo an appointment for the aspiration on Friday.

We're home and he's eaten a teeny bit and i gave him his shot, i didn't want to over feed him and have scarf and barf. He's pretty dopey and very purry at the moment.

Re: 10/29 Leo PMPS 126 & back from vet

Hi guys,

No news is good. Perhaps the original test was flawed. Anyway, just have a good night with your kitty and wait until you talk to your vet. Maybe have the blood test redone?

Thinking positively!!

Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

I'm with Ella, no news is good news. It sure seems like this group is being thorough, so we have paws crossed!

Re: 10/29 Leo PMPS 126 & back from vet

no news is good news! I went though something very similar with Mannie. Good luck with the aspirate. I will be curious to read what Dr Andra has to say.

Thanks everyone for stopping in and for wishing Leo well today.

My kitty has been chewing on a feather wand since we got home, dragging it all around the house with it in his mouth. I fell asleep and he quietly sat in the kitchen until i woke up then it was full on meowing telling me how hungry he was, poor kitty should have woken me up for some fuds! He sure does seem pretty chill after being sedated today.

I'd almost like to give some liver supplements and redo blood work before i commit Leo to an aspirate, even though the doctor assured me its a very safe test to do. I wonder what would cause his enzymes to go sky high like this?

Well we are off to bed, i hope i can get him settled down enough for bedtime.

Wow.....that is odd isn't it? I don't blame you on wanting to give him the denamarin and then retest in 30 days. it will be interesting to see what Dr. Andrea says. Is there any chance he came into contact with a toxic substance or had any trauma to that area? Could be a bacterial infection, too. I'd talk to Dr. Andrea about an a/b along with the denamarin.

Very interesting about the ursodiol . ESP because Jill's Alex and Gracie were both prescribed it based on increased liver values.

Congrats on the "nothing found" ultrasound! I'd happily paid for that, gone home & live happily ever after!
Glad that Leo is having an appy, good sign that he's not bothered with the sedation.

hi tracy. happy to hear leo's ultrasound looked good!

about ursodiol...
ursodiol has been used successfully in dogs. the vet you saw was right, but is not up to speed on the current use of ursodiol. my vet wasn't either. however, a well respected vet tech (jess/earl) who works in a reputable ER in NYC and who used to post on the board frequently clued me several years ago to how ursodiol was being used successfully in cats not only to thin the bile, but spoke to the inflammatory properties of the drug... often useful for inflamed ducts and organs in that general area. i discussed ursodiol with my vet. he looked into it and reached the same conclusion... it was worth trying for thinning the bile AND reducing inflammation especially since we preferred to stay away from steroids unless absolutely necessary.

anywho... ursodiol is something worth discussing with your vet. if your vet is like mine, she may have to do a little current research to determine if the drug would be beneficial to leo.
