Thanks for stopping by our condo and wishing us well...it has been a hard week. Kazi's congestion has gotten better overnight. She is still congested but not as badly, was actually sounding pretty clear until she sneezed a few times. I offered food and she refused so she is in a steamy bathroom right now in hopes that will clear her up a bit and entice her to eat. I've been putting her in a steamy bathroom once or twice a day through this...hasn't really helped, but maybe now that she isn't soo congested it might.

She is not quite so lethargic - didn't want to sleep pressed against me under a blanket last night like she has been. Instead she climbed up on her pillow like normal 1/2 way through the night. She was out with us last night as well instead of hiding under the bed or under the covers in my bedroom. She LOOKS a lot better - not so haggard, eyes are brighter, more alert. Just not quite there yet with the eating/congestion.

Surprised but VERY happy to see her BG staying at a good level despite no insulin and steroids.

Great update!

I posted this this morning just in case: Sending well wishes also. How much Lysine are you giving? I was sent an article by a friend about cats with flareups needing 500mg TWICE a day. I shared the info with Susan and Lanky who were visiting the ER with congestion and he started getting better in a few days. Most vets only recommend 500mg which most likely isn't enough. That its best as a bolus - 500mg at one time, not spread on food throughout the day.

Hooray for a Kazi feeling better report!!!

still sending concentrated healing vines her way...

Re: 10/29 Kazi AMBG:158

you know how they feel is so important - if she's feeling better that's a great sign! really great that she was sleeping more normally and acting more normally last night! we're thinking about you both today and hoping she continues to improve.

Re: 10/29 Kazi AMBG:158

I'm glad to hear Kazi is feeling better.

I'd also suggest warming food in the microwave so it's smelly. If Kazi likes fish, tuna (bonito) flakes are pretty smelly. They are a good topping for food and may be enticing.

I'm so glad to hear Kazi is better today. Sending more healing vines for her!! Sienne's idea is a really good one....warming up the food really brings out the odor.

Re: 10/29 Kazi AMBG:158

Karrie - I have been giving 250mg twice daily. I will up it to 500mg twice daily.

She wouldn't eat either of the times food was offered while I was at work. My Mom left her in her walk-in closet with a bit of Tuna while she ran errands. Came home & she had eaten that...offered her 1/2 can of her normal food and she ate 90% of that. Best she has eaten since Sunday night. Will offer food again tonight though I am not sure that she will eat - she hasn't got a big appetite on a normal day.

She is still congested and lethargic but not limp and quiet like she was. Still a sick kitty but as long as she keeps eating a bit for me I'll feel a lot better.

ETA: I have been periodically trying to heat food in the microwave. I found it takes roughly 9 seconds to make it explode all over the microwave. :?

Sorry about the exploding cat food. That doesn't sound appetizing in the least. (I hope you weren't planning on nuking popcorn any time soon.)
