I have to admit I'm feeling discouraged. I recognize that somethings are good - Cole is still cuddling, eating, no jumping on the counter today, but overall he is doing ok.

Then I look at these numbers and they are so much higher than what I see from others in the forum and I can't tell if we're making any progress at all when he's still in reds and blacks. I know I need to be patient - I guess today that's not working for me. I got ketone strips but haven't been successful yet catching him at the right time.

Is this still a normal pattern for a fairly newly diagnosed cat? :(

Feeling blue today..

I know sometimes it can be hard, you see other kitties doing different things, as Wendy said the human meters read lower, so don't get too caught up, you are doing exactly what you need to get his diabetes under control. And you are just starting out, it will most definitely get better. We had a lot of similar cycles too in e beginning, using AT2 meter. Just hang in there, as much as we focus in the numbers, our kitties are more than that.

Unfortunately, it is frustratingly is normal. Take a look at Neko's first year - ignore the first few weeks when i had a bad meter. The other thing to keep in mind, you are using the AT, which reads higher in higher numbers.
Thank you - looking at Neko's first year helps. Seeing that you needed to go up in dosage and then were able to come down as well but that it took time. Also I missed the fact that my meter is going to read higher. Appreciate your reply Wendy - helps alot. :)

Thank you - knowing that it's not unusual and reminders that it will get better help. :cat:

Keep looking at the good things Cole is showing you. Hopefully his drinking and peeing will also diminish, if they haven't already. Cats are more than their numbers.
