Hello LL!!

Yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=127555

Billie went to the vet today for her ear itching/head shaking/holding her ears kind of flat that started yesterday. It seemed worse today and I figured I should bring her in rather than wait since there is clearly something going on. The vet looked in her ears and took a swab. He said there is some inflammation, but he doesn't think there is an infection, but the sample didn't look totally normal either. So, I don't know what that means. I guess it could be the start of something brewing? Considering how strongly/negatively she reacted to the ABs with the diarrhea, I am wondering if the ABs could be affecting her ears too - maybe the yeast balance is off or something. The vet said that was possible, but it didn't look like she had a yeast infection. Yet another mystery for Billie.

Anyway, he gave me Zymox Plus drops to give her for a week. There is hydrocortisone in it, but he said it shouldn't affect her BGs since it is topical, and it shouldn't have the systemic effects like pred...right? I am not as concerned with the BGs because I can always increase, and she did fairly well on the pred. I just don't want anything messing with her immune system again - the UTI happened after she had been on the pred for a couple weeks, so I am paranoid. I'm wondering if any other kitties have been given Zymox Plus and how they did on it. I did some searching through old condos and it sounds like there is a Zymox without the hydrocortisone in it, but it doesn't work as well.

Otherwise, Billie is doing pretty well. Her appy is still excellent with the new food, and there is some poo improvement. She still had diarrhea today, but it had a bit more form to it, so hopefully tomorrow will be even better.

I hope everyone is having a good night! Sending vines to all the cats and beans needing vines.

Hugs and Scritches to you and Billie!!! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: I am so sorry she had to go back to the vet for her ear, I hope the new drops work for her, I don't have experience with them. But I can sure see how you need something with hydrocortisone to stop that itching and inflammation. Hope she feels better soon! :YMHUG:

hmmm, i've heard others mention Zymox ear drops before, but don't recall whether or not they influenced BGs.

Would you put that topic in your subject line again tomorrow so the people with experience with it see it? hopefully that will get some of the right eyes for you. Seems like evenings are quiet around here these days and I suspect not too many people were online this evening to see your question.

I think you'll have to see if Billie reacts to the steroids in the drops with higher numbers. FWiW, you can buy Zymox on Amazon and there's a version without hydrocortisone.

I bought Zymox without the steroids on 1-800-Petmeds. In the past, when Furball has had an ear med that had steroids in it, it has taken a couple of days before it raises her BG. But it always does.
