Amps 379 pink again :(
we are at a week on this dose of 2.25 units Lantus on SLGS.
About five days ago we were seeing her going under and around 150 bg several times.
***Do I hold this dose or do I increase?

Also, she seems to be doing a good amount of bouncing every time she sees some better numbers on her Libre.
(I think she needs to relearn lower numbers again since she has been out of them for a while.)

I have a call in to the vet today about what to do about the itching & licking.
I will be asking about possibly switching the antihistamine. Maybe Zyrtec will be worth trying for her instead of her current one. (See yesterday post)

The situation may be part allergies and the other part is there seems to be an area on her back (where a prior libre was installed and may have left an irritated area). I’ve been cleaning it gently & putting coconut oil on it twice a day and it doesn’t really look bad, it looks less irritated, just a little crusty, but she’s still licking the T-shirt excessively in that region. Also licking other areas as well.

Also to note, she’s done this licking thing before and I hadn’t seen signs of any actual skin irritation, but who really knows.

It could just be the shirt is rubbing that area.

I have used Zyrtec for cats before with some success. Mostly nasal type allergies.

You can also ask the Vet for Animax ointment. It helps inflammation and itch and believe it may have a topical antibiotic in it.

Hi Deb, thanks for the suggestion I’ve never heard of that ointment. It looks like Chewy carries it so I could order that and try it.

Animax is great stuff. It's what I'm using on Smudge's wound every time he kicks it open or rubs a piece of scab off.

Cmon Ivy, show mama some blues!

With SLGS you hold the dose if you see a nadir under 150 and you saw 139. You saw lots of green 5 days ago too. I’m going by what I see and not which meter.

Those greens were on the Libre. So the actual readings would be higher. (*When I have green numbers on my SS it will say Libre so you would not misunderstand, hopefully)
However, there were several values that would be under 150 in that green stretch several days ago.
So based on that I am assuming I would hold this dose??
 
Yes. I know those were with the Libre but we have to go with what is on the ss and not base decisions on what might have been. So I think it best to go by the ss and follow SLGS. If you think a test is not right, an ear prick can clarify. Many have tried comparisons and it’s failed miserably. If you do as I suggest you can always decide to use a slightly lower reduction number based upon Libre readings if you want. Whatever data you decide to use , you hold a dose for 7 days from seeing nadirs 150 or lower before increasing if needed. That’s my two cents FWIW.
 
Thanks for that explanation it’s actually more clear than I’ve read before. So my understanding is to wait seven days after you see 150 or under to give an increase. Thanks again for explaining it very clearly
 
If you only see one nadir under 150 and most higher you would consider an increase. With green under 100 you would not. It’s trends you are looking at and gradually you can decrease the number that you increase but definitely not with green nadirs. Hopefully she will bounce less and get used to more and more normal bg.

Both Ivy and Mikan have to get used to the normal range BGs - eventually, they will and can hold it down.
It's just that they are taking their time :rolleyes: long time :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

It is frustrating when I just see her licking and biting her tee shirt. Poor thing. I got some Calandula cream at my vet’s suggestion. I applied that so we shall see if that does anything.
I’m also going to give her a second dose per day of her current antihistamine to see if that helps. :rolleyes:

Well that’s quite a bounce after a nice long stretch of blue (Libre blue, so higher than on Contour meter). But still lower numbers so I’ll take it. :cool:

FYI Alli and @Deb and Sylvester my internal medicine doc wasn’t thrilled with this med as it has a steroid in it and he said can inhibit insulin regulation and diabetes control. They said to use very sparingly if needed. I did get him to approve it for one order.

And, my primary doc wouldn’t approve it without an appointment to see her.
She said to try Calandula cream, which is holistic, but it may not stop the itching :(
