Better number!

I cam home at lunch and he was sleeping but tested 51- I see the cat bowl is not really eaten (ok special kitty is out) so i fed him 1/3 can of TJ tuna for cats - his favorite,
He scarfs it. i will see if he wants more

now i am going to stay and watch him awhile - Am I doing it right? He has no symptoms of hypo

The 51 is a normal number. It's a big drop from his AMPS but it's by no means worrisome. You did exactly the right thing by feeding. I'd re-test in 30 min. If numbers are still in the 50s, give a bit more food. Could you post your next test?

Take a look at the handling low numbers info, as well.

Hi Misty,
Good job! Please test him again to see if he's come up or possibly dropped back down?

ok new number is 69 took forever to get a blood drop- poor little ears

Re: 10/27 Bast AMPS 317 +6 51

I just sent you a PM asking for an update. I'm hoping things will stay level. What was the +time for the 68? You may want to re-test in an hour.

I'm also going to really, really, really nag you about getting tests during the PM cycle. Given that you're seeing that Bast can drop 300 points in the cycle, even if your PMPS is high, you need to get at least one test before you go to sleep every night. Otherwise, given that some cats like to run in lower numbers at night, Bast could be dropping like a rock and you'd never know. It's for Bast's safety that you need the spot checks.

Re: 10/27 Bast AMPS 317 +6 51 +7 69

I will be up tonight sewing till at least 4am so I can do some pm checks.
The 69 was about 5:30 the 51 was about 4:30 His ears are tender and he is starting to wiggle

his pm cycle has more eating and activity. His a, cycle is more sleeping and less eating.

Do you have any neoporin ointment with pain reliever? It helps with their ears, it also helps the blood bead up instead of running into
the hair. The edges have the least nerve endings and rotating around to not hit the same spot over and over really helps them from getting
too sore.
Nice that Bast gave some greens today. But if he has the capability of dropping that dramatically , you really want to test so you know
where he is in bg. By the time he shows real signs of hypo, he could be too low and you'd be working hard to get him back up quickly.
Testing is good!

Re: 10/27 Bast AMPS 317 +6 51 +7 69

I have the plain neosporn. I will have to get the pain relief one. I am going to get 1 more test and run back to work for 2 more hours. ( I took a really long lunch)

Misty --

It will help if you can translate your 6:00 PM test into what hour that was after your AM cycle shot (i.e, your +time). We're all in different time zones so it's hard to know what 6:00 means in relation to your morning shot. It looks like you have the notation in your subject line but it makes it less confusing when reading your posts. (I tend to have to stop myself from using Lantus-speak with regard to time in talking to friends!!)

sorry I put the hours in the title and spreadsheet and then got confused when asked for the time- LOL

Bast AMPS 317
+6 51
+7 69
+8 81
+11 231

Misty,
Is what you "don't get" that his BG was a little higher at +2?
That's not uncommon. What and when did he eat in relation to the PM shot?

Sometimes their number will be a bit higher in the first couple of hours, because their food raises the number before the insulin kicks in. Then the insulin reaches "onset" around +3 and the numbers will drop to nadir in the next few hours.

It looks like that happened by your spreadsheet. Last night's cycle looks pretty "typical" for a new Lantus kitty.

It is when you see a big drop by +2 or +3 that you want to pay close attention. A +2 that is close to the shot-time BG number is not that much of a concern.
