Re: 10/26 Shanga AMBG - 118, +6/393

Please feed Shanga every 3 hours. We're seeing his test numbers drop after food. This suggests his pancreas is making at least some insulin. With a number like 118, which is very good, you don't want to start your cat on a dose of insulin that would cause very, very low numbers. We want to see what the systematic effect of food is. So please, feed every 3 hours if you can.

Re: 10/26 Shanga AMBG - 118, +6/393

Dear Sienne and Gabby,

I was feeding him every 4 hours but since 2 days I feed him every 2-3 hours.
But I got flu and fell a sleep. Woke up a bit later than I thought...
So I couldnt feed him for 4 hours and he got high BG like 393. :(
That automatic feeder is gonna save my life...
I fed him at 02.30 pm today so I am gonna feed him at 05.30 again...
I am gonna write the result before I feed him..

Thank You very much :)

That was a quick trip through the pinks. Nothing much to see there so down into yellow! Good job Shanga.! How about back to blue?

Re: 10/26 Shanga AMBG - 118, +6/393, + 8 290

Hi guys .. it was a nice blue start to the day and a quick trip to the pink floor for a nice coast down onto the yellow floor .. Think we'll hit blue again? I hope your auto feeder arrives soon, they are a life saver! Have a good one!

Re: 10/26 Shanga AMBG - 118, +6/393, + 8 290

Thank You Everyone :)

I hope Shanga will go blue tonight...
I made a phone call with 2 vets again today... I think I made them angry abit... They all offer me hills w/d or r/d for Shanga's diet.
When they hear I feed my babyboy with Fancy Feast, They act like they were shocked or like Im doing something really wrong...lol
And also one of them told me about If shanga had a tumor on his pankreas,( that scared me though) because it was weird for that vet that after i feed him he gets normal bg levels... And I can not stop thinking about what if he has something like that.....
Every vet talks different. ohmygod_smile God bless Shanga...
And thank you for asking :) I will kill the flu soon. :)

Re: 10/26 Shanga AMBG - 118, +6/393, + 8 290

Most of us here have made 1 or 2...or maybe 3 vets angry ;-)

Vets do not see enough Feline Diabetes to properly treat it.
You are not doing something wrong by feeding LC canned food instead of dry- the BG numbers confirm that.

The automatic feeder is a life saver and a sleep saver! I could not manage without it.

Take care of yourself - speedy recovery.

Dear Sandy and Black Kitty,

I agree with you that BG numbers confirm canned food is so much better. But it's really hard to explain this to a vet here.
Thank You very much for your support :)
I hope that automatic feeder will arrive tomorrow so i can get a good sleep finally :)
Btw, Shanga's BG is 131.... Finally blue again :)

Love you All

Hello Guys,
I checked Shanga's blood sugar 2.45 hours later. It's 224. I think I need to feed him every 2.5 hours...
What do you think?

bump - i don't know but you certainly could try it. perhaps someone with more experience on feeding will chime in.

i don't think it could hurt anything.

you don't want to drive yourself crazy trying to feed too often. Sure, it might help the numbers, but can you really do that all the time?

Shanga is looking better today with the frequent feedings. Sometimes it takes a while for feeding changes to take effect, so I would stay with what you're doing for a few days. Did you feed at the +3~224?
