Good Morning LL! :YMSIGH: Tess is doing the end of bounce dribble again. :sad: I know Tess had some really good cycles on this dose and there have been disruptions, but I'm thinking of fattening her dose again. Got that Tess?

Tess didn't finish all her meals yesterday, I'm hoping she is just less hungry and she isn't starting to dislike the Before Grains. I had been feeding her slightly more each meal, getting her to the full 5.5oz can per day.

Ah Tess.... no more pinks for you!!! Down you go now, or you, like Mannie, will be getting more juice. you guys planned this, or what? Hope she comes down soon. I know the sentiment - we too have had good things on the current dose...

Good luck the the BG fuds. Mannie loved them at first, now it's in the "well, if I have to category"...

hmmm, must be the moon! tess has joined the "you're on notice for an increase" club! not too bad of a start - hopefully she'll come down for you, ann.

perhaps you could schedule something that requires you to go out of town - that seems to bring her down! let her read your calendar . . .

Well, good news and bad news on the food front. I couldn't understand the numbers for the Before Grains in the new food list. The 90mg/100kcal for the Turkey was so out of line with the other foods and the calories on all of them were just so low. So I called Merrick and they emailed me the As Fed numbers for all their canned cat food. of course they were reported in different formats than we use here, so after a day of head scratching and hair pulling………….

It turns out the "calculated" calories on the cans are just about as accurate as the max/min Guaranteed Analysis numbers:
  • Beef -- from As Fed list = 172 kcal per can, not 135 listed on can
    Turkey -- from As Fed list = 202 kcal per can, not 151 listed on can
The numbers from the cans are used on the new list in the stickies. I was concerned because that 135kcal was perilously close to the minimum 15 kcal per pound to keep a cat out of hepatic lipidosis according to Dr. Lisa:
I have never seen a cat develop hepatic lipidosis when consuming at least 15 calories per pound per day

That would be (15 x 8.5lb=) 127.5kcal/day minimum for Tess. But this new info makes it fine for her, especially since it is hard to get her to eat more than 5oz. Unfortunately this is not such good news for you who are trying to get a little extra weight of your kits.

With the new kcal info we recalculated all the numbers.
Our formula was: (% Phos.) x 100g = (g of Phos./100g) ÷ (kcal/can) = (g of Phos./100kcal) x 1000 = mg of Phos./100kcal
  • (If anyone sees something wrong w/ this please let me know.)

We recalculated the Beef and it came out the same as the list for the mg of Phos/100kcal, but when we did the Turkey that 90mg/100kcal for Phosphorus that seemed too good to be true was just that. I'm not sure how the mistake was made in the list, but it should be 177mg/100kcal. Still not bad, but not the incredible number form the list.

Tess may be following Mannie and Gracie up in dose soon. I may be too groggy i the morning, but if she is still up tomorrow evening up she goes.

Tess has just spent the last 15 minutes zooming back and forth between the kitchen and living room. Hopefully that is a good portent.
