Yesterday
Shadow has 3 Ps for today. He refused all the food I offered to him this morning but finally ate some pieces of boiled chicken. He then vomited it all up along with the Denamrin pill from last night!!! That was given at 7pm last night, dinner was at 8, snacks at midnight and 4am. I was really surprised to see that pill intact like that. Sigh. I put a call into the vet office. They had ordered the Pancrea Powder for me and it was due in today. I waited all day long and finally had to call them. Very upsetting to NOT get a return call.
The usual excuse...very busy day:blah blah blah....but the meds just arrived from FEDEX so i went over there to pick it up. The vet saw me talking to the tech and was obviously too busy to come out.....very disappointing.

I am going to try the enzymes tonight.... He is obviously not digesting his food proeprly right now judging by the hair balls that have been in the vomit and that undigetsted pill this morning. He ate at both noon nad 4 pm this afternoon and has kept it all down thankfully.

I just keep hoping that he will keep his food down...and I keep reading more and more about so many different issues...(abnormal hairballs, IBD, pancreatitis and so many things....thinking about all the different things that are suggested and trying to figure out what to do next for him....) So, I have been distracted today and am only now getting around to posting....(thanks Dyana for your concern...hugs)
He is acting fine as usual....glad about that. I am so happy when days go by and he hasn't vomited and then I get two days in a row where he does get sick. So, it's three steps forward and then two steps back.
It could be worse I guess....
but, i am hoping for it to get BETTER....hugs to you all!

Oh Pat, I wish I had something intelligent to say to you. I feel like I should say something bright and encouraging, but I feel your hurt, and I have to say that I hurt for you, as long as your baby is sick.

When he's all better, I'll be dancing right along with you.
I'm sending 'eat well' vines to Shadow

No pukies, Baby, keep your fuds down, for Mama and your aunties here.

Our first dinner with the Pancrea Powder Plus...had to mix it and let it stand for at least 15 minutes. So....we had Nature's Variety instinct Rabbit mixed with the powder....and he ate it all up!
I even decided to give Raja half of what I gave him as far as the powder is conerned...figuring that she is as old as he is and has been eating the same comercially prepared foods too. And, SHE ate her dinner too!
The whole enzyme supplementtion seems logical to me....anyway, this is our attempt at a novel protein too...with the nature's variety.
Fingers crossed that he keeps it down and then that maybe it helps him too.
Thanks Barb...there are just so many complications and well, yeah....we don't like seeing our babies sick...
Hugs to you and Checkers! :YMHUG:

Oh, gosh what a tough day for you. I hope the enzyme powder is the magic bullet for Shadow.
I had been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. You sure are learning a lot.

That was weird that last night's Denamarin wasn't dissolved. Obviously it wasn't effective at all if it came out intact. It is as if his digestive juices are not doing the job at all.

I hope tomorrow is a much better day with no puking and a good appetite. (((Shadow & Pat))))

Hi Pat,

I just got home and saw your post. I'm so glad that Shadow liked the Nature's Instinct Rabbit and hope that the enzyme supplement will help him. The poor guy must really have been suffering this morning. Have you tried a hairball remedy? I have been using NaturVet natural hairball aid with catnip. It seems to be FD friendly and Rusty really likes it (he considers it a treat, and we call it "hairball treat". It aids in passing the hair through the digestive system so that the kitty doesn't have to vomit. This is the one I buy:

I hope that Shadow will be feeling much better tomorrow. I know how frustrating these things are. Bummer that your vet won't even talk to you and address your concerns.

Have a good evening with your kitties.

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

From what the vet tech said, they had a LOT of things going on today. We had an extensive talk when she called the other evening....there is a LOT of issues with this and a lot of other thing that may be going on...so many organs all together there. I guess we said all there was to say then...now, we just have to wait and see i suppose.
But still....the tech said she would call me back and just never got around to it. She was nice enough when I finally went in to pick up the meds...
Thanks for that link...will have to look for that hairball treat Ella.

And Cd...yes, the pill certainly did not do what it was supposed to do if it was still whole...
"SAMe (S-Adenosylmethionine) found in Denamarin is shown to increase the glutathione levels, an important compound for liver health. It has also been shown to help protect lever cells and may help repair and regenerate. Denamarin also contains silybin which has been shown to support liver function by helping maintain a healthy oxidative balance."
He had quite a few meals in between when I gave him that pill and when it came back up so I am really confused as to why it was still intact like that. Strange. Hopefully the enzymes will do something to help him. I am trying the novel protein after what you said...I have read about that too so it's definitely worth a try...it might be that a different protein is more effective...

The coating on denamarin tablets is to protect it from stomach acid. Apparently it's supposed to be absorbed into the small intestine, and the coating is what enables it to make it that far without breaking up. So apparently it's not supposed to break down in the stomach. Although that doesn't explain why it was still in the stomach for that long. I don't know how long it's supposed to take to get to the small intestines...but maybe that's part of the reason it takes so long to start having an affect.

Oh...wow...small intestines, eh? Well, I guess that coating does have to be pretty good to get past the stomach....thank you Anne. I am going to try to give it today again and see what happens....

Prayers & Healing Vines for our Friend Shadow, and hope he feels better tomorrow--Thanks for thinking of us in the storm--Hugs & Love from us!!
