This morning I started giving Oscar his methyl b-12 BID. We also started last night giving a taurine supplement since it was suggested to help with his hair regrowth and I have read that it helps diabetics. He woke me up again this morning since my alarm didn't go off - again grrr. He seems in good spirits this morning, only 2 p's witnessed though (purring and peeing).

I hope the MB12 helps Oscar. I am starting to see a little improvement in Tinkles' stance, he's a bit more on his toes. I'm giving 2mg BID, about a week now. The dosing I saw suggested 1.5mg total for cats weighing <10 lb, 3 mg total for cats >10 lb. I just give 4 mg because it's easier to split the dose evenly that way. Have you seen something different? Just curious... if I don't need to give so much, I'll cut back, no sense in wasting it and making his liver/kidneys work any harder than necessary...

It looks like Oscar might be thinking about hitting blue soon...I hope so! :-D

The only thing I have seen dosing wise is 3mg total. Depending on how he reacted today giving it in the morning, I might change it to two tablets in the morning and one in the evening. I was nervous about how he would react to the fructose in the tablet. Every higher potency tablet I find has sorbitol or xytol in it which aren't good for kitties. I did find one brand yesterday at my local health food store that only has cellulose and not fructose in it, which isn't quite as bad.

Thanks, just checking, I know you research too so thought you may have found something I didn't! I found mine at the health food store, it's Solgar brand, 1000mcg. Ingredients are: Methyl B12, mannitol, silica, vegetable stearic acid, vegetable magnesium stearate, vegetable cellulose, natural cherry flavor. It states that it is free of gluten, wheat, dairy, soy, yeast, sugar, sodium, artificial flavor, preservatives and color. There is a note that mannitol provides a dietarily insignificant amount of sugar alcohol. I run from anything that has any artificial sweeteners!

I didn't think the cellulose was a huge problem, it's got a low glycemic index so preferable to fructose....of course it would be better to have neither, but I chose the cellulose over the fructose. it doesn't seem to affect Tinkles' BG.

That's the exact brand I found at mine actually. I'll be switching over once we run out of the current bottle that has fructose in it. (probably a week from now if we up the dose) And from what I can tell also, cellulose is a lot better diabetes wise than fructose.
