I'm in a bit of a state and super-worried about Noogi. Please keep us in your thoughts.

When I got home this afternoon I found him in the bathroom, in obvious pain. He wasn't walking right and one of his back legs was at a funny angle. He had pooped and peed outside the litter tray (very unusual).

Took him to the vet immediately (once again so grateful that I live two blocks away from the practice). Vet not sure if this is a new injury, or a sudden worsening of his arthritis - maybe a nerve is being pinched. He said it was a good thing Noogi was able to stand and carry his weight. He gave him an injection for pain and sent me home with more pain meds for the weekend, which he will have in addition to the anti-inflammatory he is taking already. I will him know later tonight how Noogs is doing and we'll take it from there.

Noogi was showing no signs of pain yesterday and was very playful. So whatever is causing this pain came on suddenly.

When I got home after the vet I saw that Noogi had eaten little during the day. Maybe the pain started much earlier - poor little guy may have been in distress for several hours. I gave him his injection as normal (altho an hour late) and got him to eat some food (not much). He drank well though. He is now very out of it from the painkiller and is in his safe space hidey-hole under my bed. He did just come out and eat a little more, which I am pleased about. He is very wobbly on his feet.

I've cancelled my weekend plans to look after him. Got a very bad feeling that this is the beginning of the end.

Oh Helen, you must be so worried. I’m sorry Noogi is in pain. You did the right thing to take him in to be assessed. I’m so glad the vet could help you and he seems to be feeling better already.
Keeping you both in our thoughts and sending prayers and healing vines for your sweet boy 🫂🙏

Thank you Lauren, thank you Staci ❤️
I'm glad the meds are working to relieve his pain now. They are however making him very dopey.
When I get down on the floor to talk to him under the bed he is greeting me with a chirrup and a purr.

Oh, Helen! This is distressing. The first thing that came to mind--and I know NOTHING about this other than reading about it here on the forum--is saddle thrombosis. I'm sure the vet clinic is familiar with that though, and I hope it's not that. Poor Noogi! Please keep us posted. I'm sending all the healing vines, and I'm remembering him in my prayers.🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Wobbly on feet but at least walking means NOT saddle thrombosis. Seen it in one of my own cats and back legs were basically inoperable. There could be all sorts of reasons for wobbly legs. Neko's buddy was a klutz and tended to run into things while in active play with his mousie. He once did some soft tissue damage that meant he wasn't weight bearing on one leg for a while. I presume Noogi's had blood work recently and his potassium numbers were good? I've also seen low potassium in a cat and how it impacts walking.

Oh no Helen. I'm sorry to read this update about Noogi. I'm glad you took him in right away and that the drugs seemed to help him. I'll be thinking about you both and waiting for another update. In the meantime boys and i are sending lots of healing vines

Thank you Mary, I really appreciate it ❤️
No its not a thrombosis. I've been through that with a previous cat and know the signs - that is, sudden and complete paralysis in the hind legs. When it happened to my old man Thomas I was able to get him to the emergency vet and they saved his life. I got an extra six months with him although the heart condition that caused the thromboembolism eventually took his life. All cat owners should be aware of the signs of saddle thrombosis.
Noogi's symptoms were different - one of his legs was out at weird angle and he was sorting of hopping and wobbling in a crooked line - altho he was in a similar amount of pain. The vet has referred to it as a neurological weakness related to his spondylosis. He says the x-ray we had a few weeks ago shows almost complete fusion near the tail, and thinks it might be a trapped nerve.
He's on opioid painkillers and they are making him comfortable.

He did have several tests some months ago, but I don't remember if they tested potassium. I only got a print out of the urinalysis results. I will ask the vet about potassium. Although it does look more likely to be related to spondylosis (see my comment above).
