Pirate Fitzel's Condo Cove

Very stressed kitty and bean. Numbers reflect that. Fitzel's on bupe and that is probably playing into this roller coaster. As her nadirs have skyrocketed I've increased her dosage back to .50.

Sending vines to those who are in need and congrats to everyone on OTJ trials and those who've made it successfully to the falls.

I know you and Fitzel have been having a rough go of it lately. I'm so sorry and send you'd both hewing vines.

The mirtz can definitely make them agitated. Cyproheptadine is also a good appy stimulant for cats but it can do the same thing as it is used off label as an appy stimulant.

You're doing the right thing by taking her dose up a bit but as she feels better, the numbers might come down fast.

Thinking of you. Let us know how we can help.

Hi Marje - thank you for stopping by and for your loving vines. They are welcome and accepted.

I haven't given Fitzel any more of the appetite meds. As a consequence she's much calmer, but not eating as much as I'd like.

I don't think she's in pain as she's getting the bupe on a regular basis. She seems quite stressed and listless the last few days. She'll just sit in the middle of the living room and stay there. Kind of looking at nothing in particular. She'll respond if I call her name. She'll lay down when I come over to have her belly rubbed and her head scratched. But, that listlessness remains. While she was playing last week, that's not the case this week. She's not running a fever. Frankly, she looks and acts depressed.

She is coming to bed at night and letting me love her up - so that's good. Her LB habits are fine, which I'm very grateful for considering the IBD. She's not drinking excessive water.

Amma (15 weeks old today) is totally integrated into the household and she hates Fitzel as much as Fitzel hates her. They stay mostly out of each other's way. Amma is still put in her own room during feeding time (god forbid Fitzel get a hold of that kitten food) and at night so Fitzel has a break from the baby and the baby has a safe spot to sleep.

While this might play into Fitzel's demeanor - I don't think it's the entire reason.

Thank you for the offer of help. I wish I knew what to ask for, but I'm not sure even the amazing souls on this board can help with a depressed kitty.

I'm sorry she is depressed. It could just be feeling poorly.

I have a fantastic animal communicator if you ever need one.

Hi Shai......
Fitzel will come around and be good soon. You're taking care of the pain and BG, The Pirate will do her bit. She's probably just being a cat.
Tucker and Sophie have been together 10yrs now, and they still just tolerate each other. If Tucker didn't thump Sophie in the head at least once a day, I'd think something was wrong!
Depression, hmmmm...... I make sure I give catnip every day to the aliens. I've read that catnip is great for the nerves AND stomach. I've heard it's even great for humans when used as a tea. Has the same calming effect for nerves and stomach.
Try some easy things for her appetite. Get some regular tuna in water (no oil, veggies or additives) and she'll LOVE the water strained off. Then you can have a tuna salad sandwich!
Sophie LOVES the frozen tiny salad shrimp. Wallmart sells the small bags for just a couple of dollars. I put a half dozen in a little water, then give it to her when it thaws. She goes wild for the water, and also likes the shrimp.
I think I should make "flavored designer kitty waters", maybe flavors like Bunny, Robin or Mouse..... I think it would sell!
Wishing you and yours the best !!!
Chris, Tucker and Sophie

Shai --

Remember that bupe is a narcotic. What you're describing as Fitz being listless may be that she's a bit zonked due to the bupe. The bupe shouldn't have an effect on Fitz's numbers. I suspect her numbers are more due to her just not feeling 100%.
