Apollo's Condo

Good morning. Just posted Apollo's AMBG 96. Greens!

This morning I once again gave him 1/4 a teaspoon of Miralax and a Lifelink Xobaline B12 pill for AM feeding.

I went to visit my family for a day and had a pet sitter watch the cats. We found her on Care.com, and it worked out great. Thanks to everyone's suggestion on that.

Apollo was very energetic when we got home. He seems to be much improved. I am still keeping a watch for his bowel movements, but he didn't leave any poop presents while we were gone and he seems to be acting totally normal, so that is good.

So.... I counted about 11 days without insulin for Apollo. Is this going to turn into an OTJ trial, do you think? It was not the usual step down method, but his numbers are not bad at all for being off the juice so long.

Opinions?

Just wondering since if this is a trial .... I need some Apollo photos. But I can wait if you want to resume shooting. I bet sooner or later there will be an OTJ party for your Apollo.

To be honest I was getting ready to start giving him insulin at 0.1 units twice a day again (based on Jill's recommendation), but then this morning he gave me the 96, so I hesitated. I wondered if maybe I should hold off a bit longer and see if he stays in the greens on his own before I give him any more juice?

I'd be curious to see if anyone had any opinions either way?

John - Sorry I haven't been around much. Apollo is looking great!! I am so glad care.com worked out for you. We have about 4 people that we have gotten off of there and love them all.

I have no advice, but see why you would be hesitant to start insulin back up. Apollo really came around quick. That is wonderful! Hope you have a great night!!

FWIW, if it was my kitty, I'd want her in green all the time before I took her OTJ. Also, you don't have any mid cycle tests to know what his nadir is....whether it is green or what he is doing.

I still vote for the .1u bid. :-D

Apollo's PMBG is 99.

I can grab some mid cycle checks if that would be helpful to decide to go with the 0.1 or not? I agree I'd like him to be in the greens consistently going forward before he goes OTJ.

Question: How do I draw 0.1 units exactly?

When we were going OTJ about 18 months ago, there was a common opinion on the board that longer on insulin was better, and all green was decidedly better. We weaned Kitty off very slowly.

Here are the illustrations for .25: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18139.

For the .1, you can fill it to .25, then count how many drops it takes to empty it. Then fill another syringe and squeeze out a little more than half that many drops. There's your .1.
