Are you OK? News says bad earthquake in Instanbul! I've been worried about you.

Good job! You have the testing going...keep testing and we'll put together the information and figure out what dose when your insulin arrives.

i also don't know enough to advise you on this, but again, this will bump you up for some help on what the dose should be.

did you get the high carb (gravy) canned food and a hypo kit put together?

I haven't been able to follow your story much, but I've read tidbits. Glad you are testing and insulin is on the way!

Bumping you again. You should add "need advice" to your subject line so experienced eyes know to check in.

Hello Pallid,

Have you been affected by the earthquake? Please let us know that you are OK. We are hoping all is well.

While you are waiting for the insulin to arrive, please continue to monitor Shangas BG and document the results on the ss. Also please make note on Shangas ss of the times he eats. You can do this either in the cell corresponding to the +hour or in the colum to the immediate right of the ss data.

A few questions:
1 - Are you feeding LC (low carb = less than 10%) food? Many of us feed food win the 3%-6% range.
The following may help you determine the carb count of the food you use.
Jante & Binkys Food Charts

2 - What will your shot times be? Will your schedule allow you to test/monitor Shangas BG in between shots?

3 - How is Shanga feelling and behaving: does he have a good appetite and is he eating well? Playful?

Very important - Before you begin giving Shanga insulin, you need to also have supplies to treat low BGs, if needed:

Several cans of HC (high carb, 18% or higher) food
karo syrup or honey
plenty of BG testing strips

Another bump up to the top of the list. Have you been able to get in touch with Isil?

Let us know when you get the insulin and the experienced members can help w/ dosing. How much does Shanga weigh? That will help in determining the starting dose. Food will effect his BG numbers for at least 2 hours, so we also need to know when the food was given in relation to the tests.

I know the quake wasn't close to Istanbul, but I hope you ha no family effected by it.

Just keeping you all in our thoughts, Pallid. I know you are anxious to start the insulin. We'll be here to help when you get it. Glad you talked to Isil.

Hello Everyone,

Thank You for asking me about earthquake. It happened far away from Istanbul. I am ok... But It's so sad that it effected people there in a bad way ... :(

First I am feeding Shanga with Fancy Feast Classic. He is 11 lbs.
Thankfully he eats well, but he seems like he is always hungry :)
But his blood sugar is fluctuating. I talked with another vet today on the phone and he said to me to not starting insulin yet. Because he already has normal levels at the day time. He can get hypoglycemia ... etc etc...
My lantus will arrive tomorrow. As you see his SS he gets high blood sugar at the night time and in the morning... So I dont know what i have to do... I dont know when i will shot or howmany unit.... I really need your experiences and ur advices...
Thank you for all advices,Thank You For your support...
And yes, I met with Isil on the phone. I really need to thank you all that I met very special someone because of you :)
I will send Shanga'S condo for today...

Thank You Guys
Without you I would feel completely lost...

we've felt the very same way. treating a diabetic cat is something that not everyone will do and many people don't understand.

my brother-in-law told me there were 100 more just like punkin at the humane society. why didn't i just go get one that worked? that's sort of a typical comment for him to make, so i just ignore him.

anyway, everyone here understands your concern for shanga.

when you start giving her insulin her blood sugar is going to even out some. so i don't think it will be a problem that she gets own into the 100's at some point during the day. we want to get rid of those 400's!

we're asking about when you will give shots because you just need to pick a time that works for you. you're going to shoot the same time morning and evening. i do 7am and 7pm. what time do you feed her breakfast? you're going to start your morning by testing shanga, then getting her insulin and breakfast ready. when you put down her breakfast you want to be ready to shoot the insulin in her. that's going to be your shot time. at first it will probably take you longer to do all of that - eventually most people can test, feed and shoot within about 10 minutes.

Have you watched a video or read the directions on how to give shots?

would you go to the first post you made in this condo and click "edit post" and add in "Dose Help" or something like that so that those who give dosing advice see that you need that help? Thanks!

Hello julie & Punkin,

First I really need to Thank You for your support :) It means a lot...
As you know I figured it out his blood sugar goes well after I fed him. So I fed him toningt at 01.30 am and 05.45 am again. I checked his blood sugar was 225 in the morning at 09.15 am... So maybe If I can feed him more at the night time, he will get better bg level.
I will feed him 3 times tonight until morning and I am really curious about the results tomorrow morning...
I give his breakfast like 09.00 am. So I can do it 09.00 am and 09.00 pm...
And yes I watched the videos how I can shot... I am experienced to give shots with the cats who live in the streets. I vaccinate when they need them...
So I hope giving insulin shots won't be a problem to Shanga... My Lantus is coming today...

Thank You :)
