Lucy told me she wanted to say hello to all of her LL friends, so here we are! I told her to have a condo we had to do a test. She obliged with a nice one - 74 about an hour after dinner. Lucy has now been OTJ for longer than she was on insulin - 17 months ON the juice, almost 20 months OFF the juice.

Lucy is still her hilarious self. She has decided that the kitchen is for sleeping and the bedroom is for eating. I washed one of her kitty beds after Jazzy peed on it, and I put it on the kitchen counter (for just a few minutes, right?) while I decided whether to put it back on the floor to be peed on again. In those few minutes, Lucy claimed the bed on the counter and it's still there. It's a good thing I live by myself and don't cook much. When Jazzy first came here, Lucy really didn't like her so I started feeding Lucy in the bedroom. Now that Lucy is sleeping in the kitchen, I thought it would be ok to start feeding in the kitchen again. I guess it is not ok. She will jump down off the counter, walk past the kitchen food dishes, go toward the bedroom, and sit and stare at me because I'm not bringing her food. I'm trying not to give in. We'll see how long I can hold out. But YES, Lucy is jumping. All 16 pounds of her. She can even get on top of my big upright piano by jumping onto the bench first, and she can get onto counters and from the counter to the top of the fridge. She's still obese, but she gets around just fine so far.
For Jazzy, I'm experimenting with using R as a booster to her Lantus. I haven't been testing enough to use it properly since I have been sick, but I'm finding that small amounts can help keep her in nice ranges. I remember Jojo once suggesting that for acro cats it is often safer to keep their basal insulin dose a little on the low side, and cover the higher numbers with R. That way when they rev down you're not caught trying to drain a 13 unit shed on a cat that you can't bring up with low carb food. I think Jazzy is trying to prove her right, because both days this week when I thought I was going to increase her Lantus dose, she threw me a low blue preshot and I couldn't. Jazzy is pretty regulated and is now ready for her new home. If you know anybody who is looking for a Siamese diva acro kitty, send them my way.
Me, I've been sick for several weeks now. Turns out I have hyperthyroidism, which is common in cats but much less common in people. Go figure. I've started a low dose of meds and am seeing a specialist on Monday. I hope I can get back to normal soon so I can spend more time in LL. I miss you guys but I don't have the energy to be here very long at a time. :YMHUG:
Happy Caturday!
