Hello LL!!

Yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=127343

Billie is doing slightly better today. She is off the Clavamox. Her vet agreed that it was probably causing some nausea and lack of appetite. She is now on liquid Veraflox (same family as Baytril) for 7 days, and it is only dosed once a day, which is lovely for both me and Billie.

Billie still won't eat her cat food, but she has been eating bits of boiled pork in pork broth, low sodium ham, and Beech Nut beef baby food. I am feeling iffy about the beef since I know it can be an allergen, but it is technically a novel protein for Billie, because she rarely ever got it...and I want to give her whatever she will eat at this point. I looked for plain ham baby food but could only find it mixed with pineapple/rice. She is only interested in small amounts of food at a time, but at least she is interested. She's definitely doing better than last night. She wants nothing to do with fortiflora, which is weird. I'm wondering if she's developing an aversion to it. She did drink some water tonight as she usually does when her numbers go high.

She had a lovely run in green and mid blue last night and today AM. I thought we might have thwarted a bounce, but here it is. Oh well! Negative ketones.

Her vet recommended Pepcid for nausea, but I haven't given it to her yet. I am hesitant because she has been resting comfortably and I don't want to upset her. I already sent her running under the bed once after she got the Veraflox. I am not super concerned because she is eating, but I want her to feel as good as possible of course. The vet suggested that I see how she does tonight and bring her in tomorrow for a Cerenia shot if she is not closer to normal again. We'll see. She is sleeping behind the couch right now, but I think I will catch her with the Pepcid when she comes out.

I hope everyone has a nice night! Sending lots of vines to all the cats and beans needing vines.

The Pepcid really isn't good for nausea....it's more for acid stomach

If Billie is lip smacking, better go with the cerenia

If she was nauseous and you were trying to get her to eat with Fortiflora, it's very possible she now associates the smell with feeling icky, so you may very well be right that she's developed an aversion to it.

Hopefully she'll feel better soon and will forget that she didn't feel good when it had that smell.

These kitties...they sure are a challenge, but they're worth every minute of it!

If Billie is having an aversion to her regular food with the Forti Flora on it, try something else to try and get her to eat. I know that I've given my former cats who have GA some Fancy Feast Appetizers, which is (according to the packaging), straight meat in broth. Granted, it may make her #s go up a bit if she's sensitive to that sort of thing. However, any other food is better than nothing at this point. Cerenia is a good medication. I recently gave it to Blackie and it didn't upset her stomach at all. She ate better in the evening than in the morning, though.

I'm glad that she's drinking on her own. WTG, Billie!!! :-D

Sending tons of healing vines, and positive thoughts your way. I continue to wish Billie to make a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks for visiting, Chris! You are right that they are worth every minute of it

Thanks for the insight on the Pepcid. I was sort of wondering if it would help, because I'm not sure that stomach acid is the issue? Maybe I won't bother her with it and will go for the Cerenia tomorrow if she is still off. She was lip smacking last night while staring at the food that I was trying to coax her into eating...poor girl. I haven't seen her lip smacking today, so that's good.

I wonder if she is also associating her usual food with feeling icky. I may have to go back to the drawing board on novel protein, limited ingredient food if that is the case. I'm sure she will let me know what she wants.

Thank you Angela!! I guess you read my mind wondering if she is going to associate her regular food with feeling bad. She has food allergies which makes things complicated, but she loves Fancy Feast appetizers. She used to eat those often. I do have some backup food options in case she decides she wants new food. I can try Instinct rabbit and maybe go back to Evo for a little while if I have to. Meanwhile, Brooklyn gets all the fortiflora!

"slightly better" is encouraging, Deanna. Sending tons of vines she keeps getting better and better. It's so tough, though, once they get in the habit of not eating. And you've got the tightrope of allergies to deal with. Great job of managing everything.

Feelbettersoon little girl. Three cats, a big ol' dog, and one cranky bean are pulling for you from here!

Marilyn

Hi Deanna,
I hope you can find some foods that will work for Billie. It's good that she's off the Clavamox. That stuff always made our kitties vomit! It must taste awful.

Have a good evening. More vines are on the way for Billie,

Ella & Rusty

Thanks Marilyn and Ella!! Thank you for the vines! Thank you to the three cats and big ol' dog too  Those vines are powerful - Billie just ate a nice little plate of pork and ham! Yay!! It's not cat food, but it's protein, and she's not allergic to it! She also drank more water which is super cool. I wonder if the "low sodium" ham is making her thirsty.

I understand how the kitties feel with food aversions. It makes sense. I once got a stomach bug and had scrambled eggs when I wasn't feeling well...and I couldn't eat scrambled eggs again for like 4 years after that. I do have a backup option that I almost forgot about - Wysong rabbit au jus. I have to order it online and don't know if Billie will like it, but it's about as limited ingredient as Wild Calling. However, it may be too limited...I don't see any vitamins, taurine, etc. listed in the ingredients, but I can always finagle something with supplements.

Aw, poor Billie....ABs are so rough on our kitties. I hope her appy continues to pick up. My Civvie Petey had one dose of clavamox a year or so ago, and I swear if he didn't have fur, he would have looked green - within a few hours of that dose, he just went down and barely ate for 24 stressful hours.

Pepcid isn't super-great for nausea, but I think it can take the edge off until you can get to the vet. I know it works for me personally that way...if my stomach feels rattled, not necessarily acidic, Pepcid does help. Cerenia is definitely good stuff. You can get in injection form - it's a little pricey, but unless Billie is easy to pill, the injection is easier (since you are well-versed in giving shots!)

Feel better, Billie!!
