10/21 Racci AMPS-103,+4-45,+7-73,PMPS-F97

Happy Monday!

Racci is doing well today. She woke me at about 7am for breakfast and ate a nice big one, then wanted more! I gave her a tiny bit more and wbtb. When I woke at 9 she was waiting for her second breakfast from DH and just starting it when she came to see me & say good morning. Surprisingly she was still just 83 at AMPS after eating all night and morning. All P's in evidence, even poo today! Early in the wee hours when we went to bed, Racci decided we had to play with the toy basket and all the toys in it so we played for about half an hour than I covered her up in her bed next to mine and she went to sleep for a while until later when she moved to her turbo scratcher.

I have to go to the vet to pick up Racci's Adequan today. Where do most of you shoot it? Do you all shoot it intra-muscle or under the skin? What part of the body? What dose in relation to size of cat? Thanks!

Anne, I hope you see this from yesterday:

What do you do with the boxes to keep the sides smooth after you cut them? I have Racci shaved so she's prone to getting scratched and it's impossible to get them smooth enough. I tried and couldn't at any rate. If you use tape, it gets really gross looking because it doesn't clean well. How did you do yours? I'd love to hear if you conquered the problems! I'm thinking of just buying a large box with low sides (3" high) and dealing with the mess that comes out. Racci doesn't really cover it much anymore so it's mainly what she drags out on her long fur.

Gosh, never thought about the sides of the opening we cut. After I cut them with a jig saw, I sanded off the bits with some fine sandpaper and that was enough for kitties. The other thing Liz has done recently is to put a regular 3" high large litter box inside a large cardboard box with high sides and lines the sides of the cardboard with plastic sheeting. Then we can wipe off anything that gets outside the litter box. We should take a picture and send to you.

I don't think a cardboard box would fit in my bathroom unfortunately. I tried a large 3" litter box but the largest I could get was not large enough and the quality was lousy. I couldn't find a good quality box in the short sides. With the cut plastic, it was the bottom part, not the sides that cut Racci, sorry. Poor thing had a nasty scratch on her belly from it. I had sanded it with sandpaper. I'll have to go shopping in Target and see if they have something I can use. Thanks!

HUgs and have a great day!

Re: 10/22 Racci AMPS-83

HI Melanie. Lovely amps for Racci  How cute that Racci played with all the toys at bedtime.

I seemed to have missed a good conversation yesterday.
I too, have lb issues with Checkers. I need high sides too. I use 29 gal. RubberMaid storage containers, with a hole cut in front. I line the cut part with duct tape, to soften it.

It's very hard on my hands to cut. I never thought of using smaller LB boxes and setting them inside big, replaceable cardbord boxes. They would be so much easier to clean.
Checks uses the back left corner to pee, and I could hang plastic from the cardbord, so it hangs inside the LB to 'drain'

Oh, thanks for getting my brain working on this. :-D

Hi Barb,

I'm glad you got some help out of the conversation also. That's a good idea with the plastic. It really hurt my hands cutting the plastic also. I have a great little hand saw with a really sharp blade but needed a scissor also. The saw is hard for me to use with my RSD in the shoulders. I can manage a little but that's it. How do you keep the duct tape clean? I saw lots of tall boxes I can't find large short ones though. Racci always peed in the front left corner and pooed in the back left corner. Now all of a sudden she's doing everything in the front! That's a big problem because she steps in it when she gets out!

I don't know what happened to her when I went to pick up her Adequan at the vet. I left and she was 64 bg & when I came home she was 121 after doing my running around to pick things up in town. I have no idea why she jumped so high at +6 when she should have been low. Strange. She must have been upset that I left. I know DH said she wanted him to put her on the window seat and he couldn't because he wasn't going to be there to let her down when she wanted down. I wonder if that upset her since I wasn't there?

Have a great night!

Hi Melanie. boy, don't you hate those explainable jumps? Sometimes a cat's just gotta be a cat and baffle the beans.

I don't notice the duct tape getting any worse than the rest of the box. I hate that I can't take the box outdoors to wash, much longer, with winter coming on.
I heat the plastic with a hair dryer, as I work. It makes it easier to hacksaw it.
Oh, the things we do for our kids.

Oh, don't I know what you mean about cleaning the box outside!!! It's already getting too cold. I don't have a utility sink so the only place big enough is the tub and I hate getting those germs there. I have DH take it outside and pour hot water on it outside and start it there so at least most of the dirt is gone first. He's like an Eskimo and loves being outside in the cold.  I'm glad the duct tape holds up. I didn't think it would. Racci is very sloppy because her legs hurt so she drags across the edge of the box getting it dirty since her legs hurt so much to lift. That's why I need the short sides. I just lost half this message!!!!!

Good idea with the hair dryer! Thanks. You're right what wouldn't we do for our fur kids? Have to go get my Racci ready for test, meds & shot. Have a great night!

Oh, sweet covering her up for bed time. :-D

Lovely to see Racci enjoying better bg curve !
Sorry about the LB problem. My cats are not big in size, I am using some standard hooded LB & also some plastic containers I got from Ikea for use as LB. Those plastic containers are original meant to be plastic drawers fit for the Ikea child storage system. They are cheap & just the right size for use as LB. I put a few bricks in the front so that some of my cats can ust it as stairs to step in & out.

Hi Lisa,

Racci loves her blankie. :-D When I cover her she snuggles right in and looks so cute. She gets nice and comfy and doesn't move from her bed until I do.

Hi Helen,

The bricks are a good idea! I wonder if that would help Racci or if it would just confuse her? I may try something like that for stairs. Thanks.

Good night! I'm off to bed.
