Ok, so, last update I said I felt we were dialing into to a good dose for Jones. Apparently I did not anti-jinx and cross enough body parts.
From what I see....he sees a blue or green for a bit and then bounces right to the clouds and stays for a bit, comes down and the right back up. He has been way more sensitive since the missed prednisolone dose that sent him really low when I was in the ER that one time. Thehn he was in the ER....seems a little bouncy.
Makes me wonder...do I need to up a bit in dose? Modify my SLGS approach a bit more? We currently don't do a decrease unless he goes below 70 as the prednisolone will keep him up. Wonder if I should wait till I see that 3 times/like 3 cycles in a row before doing a dose change?
I also wonder on the mirtazapine. The ER vet gave the every 3 days pills which made Jonesy meowy and crazy. Plus you don't get the full appetite stimulation for 3 days. Discussed with my temp vet and she gave me 2 mg compounded ones which work better in regards to appetite stimulation but it seems like his BG's are higher. So all other things - food, meds, prednisolone being equal - could it be the mirtazapine? I asked if the vet clinic if the pills were sugar coated and they said no - that the higher BG's were probably due to pilling stress.
He gets pilled twice a day with treats and the stress shouldn't last 6 hours. So in the end I don't think they have an answer for me. Maybe it is nothing and I am just grasping at straws. I like the cyproheptadine better...less erratic behaviour and the eating seems a little more consistent. The vet just seems very hesitant in giving me a prescription for it. IM visit on the 31st, maybe I can talk to him about it. If he agrees then that will be in the notes to the reg vet and then hopefully she will not be so hesitant.
Was thinking of using cypro for the next week then see how that goes...but then is it ok to switch back and forth? I guess I did that when they put him on the mirtz after his ER visit, he was on cypro before that. \
Now I am rambling. Nice fall day out.. I will go and enjoy some sunshine.
