Rough evening...had to whisk civvie Petey off to the vet right after Trix's shot because of "the bug". Most everyone else got over it pretty quickly and without intervention. It started with Pete yesterday morning; lethargic, no appetite, a little vomitting. By the evening, though, he seemed much better. He was interested in food but still not eating, and was back to his Petey Personality. I thought we were in the clear. This morning, he was the same - at first...pretty spunky, interested in food, but still not diving in. Then, as I was getting ready for work, he wailed then vomitted foamy liquid, attempted to poop with no success. Ugh. I came home at lunch to check on him, and he seemed comfortable but groggy. When I got home from work, the poor little guy was, well, a stink bomb. The vet took us in right away.
Long story short, it really seems like nothing more than a bug. His temp was normal, she couldn't feel anything in his abdomen, didn't see anything like string caught in his throat. They gave him a cerenia injection, shaved and shampooed is tushie (he has long fur), and sent us home with the dreaded metronidizole (first dose down, excessive drooling complete.) She said we could give pepcid also, and will follow up tomorrow. Ugh. Looks like September is still holding out as our only month without a vet visit this year...fingers crossed for November and December!
I'm a beat bean...so stressed and worried, and will stay that way till all is well again. Oh, and Marje - Mario did have a touch of the bug...his appetite was off kilter for about a day, but he's fortunately back on track and back to being as spunky as a 16 year old can be.
Gotta call it a night, and soon....
