well last night was enlightening. i guess punkin's been in more pain than i realized. thanks for your suggestions, karrie - i did see them. i hadn't jumped on them because he *seems* like he moves pretty freely. he jumps on and off the coffee table all of the time. i'll try some of those things and see if some accommodations would help. thanks for all the checking in last night! i appreciate it.

here's a short video i caught of him last night - i don't think he's especially drugged, i think he's just happy. what a face - mr purry guy!! :lol: anya wanted to know what's up with him - she had to come and explore.

this morning he's zonked under the coffee table. i slept in til 8 and the DH gave him his shot at the usual 7. got my caffeine beside me and it's starting to kick in! not too bad of an amps for an entire can of gravy food plus a 1/2 can of turkey & giblets.

oh, i forgot to say that i dropped his bupe by 25% to .15 and the lantus by 1 unit to 13units this morning. we'll see what that combo does today.

You guys had quite a night! It's amazing how much difference the bupe made. Poor guy must have been pretty uncomfortable! If they would just tell us instead of hiding it so well! He sure sounds purry this morning.

What a pair of sweethearts! :-D It was so nice to see his response last night. If the bupe helps, what is the plan for the long run? Is it something you will just keep on giving? Or is there something else/

and ya know, i'm just not enchanted with jimmy fallon.

My heart is all refilled - right to the top. Love seeing Punkin and Anya not far away. Still no closer to any of our three loving each other. Does he prefer lights out with his eyes dilated like that?

heehee i had to watch maverick's talking video again. love how he answered you when you asked if he wanted to eat. hahaha. you know, he and punkin have very similar faces, especially their eyes. he doesn't particularly hang out where it's dark, so i'm not sure if the dilated pupils bother him or not. doesn't seem to.

you can't hear him much in the video - he was purring away, but i was across the room so i guess it didn't pick it up much.

he's still under the coffee table - hasn't moved. one of my tests is that i'm wanting to still see him asking for his FUD like normal. the rest of his breakfast is in 1/2 hour and he isn't asking for it yet. might mean that bupe dose is still a little high for him.

he can continue on the bupe long-term, ann, as far as i know. i think there are some kitties who get it daily. we talked about the other pain relief options, trazadone, gabapentin, accupuncture, even metacam (which the vet says she doesn't use on cats) and it sounds like if the bupe works it's the best bet. i may try the accupuncture but it was pretty expensive - like $260 for the first month! yikes. we'll give this a 10 day trial and see how it works.

Think what you are doing right now will be good..Dont know about long term bupe, but so glad your vet nixed metacam--it can kill a kitty! So she knows her stuff :-D
Nice number today too--Hope it keeps getting better & better for him--Hugs & lub from us!

Wonderful video! They are both so adorable and Punkin looks really relaxed, sweet boy. Congratulations on the new vet! That is always stressful, but it sounds like you found a good one. Hope you have a great night Julie!!

I just love punkin (and anya) videos! I could really hear the purring...so soothing it made me relaxed! Glad to hear the bupe is helping and punkin is more comfortable.

Wow did I ever miss an exciting night...Punkin in the 60s!! Holy cow. Good luck on the reduction.

We use bupe for Gus's arthritis. We tried cosequin, adequan, gabapentin, tramadol (I have yet to have a cat that the tramadol did not make hyper so I stay away from it...vets like it for some reason). Our pain mgmt specialist likes to use a combo of gabapentin/amantadine. But...didn't work. It does depend on the nerve involvement, though, so it could work for Punkin.

I hope you find the magic thing that will help him.

That boy has the most beautiful face! So sweet, and the purring is nicely audible. I hope that all will work out with the pain relief and that you, DH, and the kitties will have a lovely weekend.

not so sure about the strategy - he wasn't overly zoned out today. he did ask for his meals . . . so it was somewhere near the right dose of bupe, i think. maybe the reduction of lantus was too great.

i don't know - i guess we'll give it a little more time and see what happens. he was sure flat today.

If you ask me, it's a sad, sad day when an acro cat has better numbers than a non-acro cat.. Punkin (and Gus) seem to do better than Champ all the time these days!!

That was one cute video!!! Punkin couldn't be happier!!! And your DH has beautiful hands, by the way. I love a man with clean fingernails. :lol: :lol:
