I am happy that I am getting some lower bluer numbers with Lovey. Not today yet? How do I get them more consistently? Or do I need to ask Lovey about that? I get some blues with 1.75, 2.25 and a little with 2.5. it almost seems that lovey's body not dose amount dictates. Do I need to raise 2.5 already or should I keep trying? I know not to raise during a bounce. I am not sure that this is a bounce. Maybe Lovey needs time to settle in to the dose?

You may want to put the ? mark icon on your condo to get more eyes on it. She could be bouncing today from that drop from 382 to 114 yesterday. Sometimes it is not how low the cat goes, but how fast they drop that causes the bounce. I hope Lovey will come back down soon.

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by Gobbles' condo last week. I don't know if we've met? I'm Kat and Gobbles is still sweet (maybe about a pound too sweet...lol) and went into remission this past May. He's an 11 year old, neutered gray tabby--super bratty and lives up to his name. I see that Lovey was diagnosed in July? Lovely is still considered "newly diagnosed" and sometimes it takes a bit of time to get a diabetic kitty into "normal" numbers or OTJ. Take a look at Gobbles' SS--the proof is in the pudding. He drove me absolutely nuts for quite a while and I think he dictated his BG...my husband said that MY moods were dictated by Gobbles BG...another lol. I do believe you're seeing a bounce; if it were me, I would wait at least another day before considering a dose change. I read on Lovey's SS that you're having trouble getting blood, and see that you tried paw testing; I did that a lot to Gobbles. It is a little different from ear testing. Here's part of a response I made on a post the other day, with reference to paw testing:
In the beginning of Gobbles FD journey, I always tested him on his back paw pads, and then as time went on, I would test him there to give his little ears a break. Here's what worked well for me:
First and foremost, have a warm rice bag or warm washcloth ready. Sit in a position that is calming to you and your kitty. With Gobbles, I would sit on the floor with him in my lap, facing outwards (his back was to me). Place your lancet, glucometer with test strip partially in it (though not turned on) and a triple-antibiotic ointment..on your right side, if you're right-handed (left side if left-handed). Then grab(her) foot and warm it a little (maybe 15 seconds), then gently rub (about another 15 seconds). Next, while holding (her) foot, take you lancet and do a quick poke (very fast) then "milk" the blood out....in my experience, it takes the paw pad longer to bleed than the ear. If you are still not getting a bead of blood after milking for about 30 seconds, do another poke about 1/4" away from first poke. Once you get the blood, push the test strip all the way in the glucometer and get (her) test. Once finished, apply pressure on the paw pad for about 15 seconds, then apply an ample amount of the triple-antibiotic ointment (and be sure to apply the ointment even if you don't get blood).
If you don't get a test the first time, then try it on the other back paw pad; if you still haven't got it, give kitty a short break, then try again. And give (her) a low-carb treat :mrgreen: . Don't give up--this technique took me a few tries. And keep an eye on (her) pawpads for infection; Gobbles never got an infection when I did this, even when he had diarrhea which stuck to his feet; key is the antibiotic ointment.

On the upside, I lost about 10 pounds. lol My family had a mini-intervention that I can only do my best becuase they saw how upset I was getting. I am doing better now. I am doing my best and putting Lovey in God's care and hands.
I started off paw testing but Lovey was swatting me and scratched a few times. She is a sweet cat and pretty docile usually, but she does not like the testing. I thought ear testing would be better so I just got the hang of ear testing recently. When it takes 1 -3 pricks, Lovey is fine, but the ear was bruised and hard to get blood lately so Lovey was hissing and pretty upset.

She does like the freeze dried chicken. I do give her them. I went back to paw testing for a little while to give her ears a rest. I can do a paw test pretty quick.
dyana, do you think the drops I am having are too much and then cause too much bouncing. Could 2.5 be too much insulin?
I usually give one snack at + 3 or +4. I wonder if I go back to giving scruff shots (slower absorption?) will that help or two very small snacks early in cycle?

Thanks--OTJ is possible for Lovey as well. Even a month before he went OTJ, I never thought it would happen. And I guess the weight loss could be a good thing? I actually gained a little because I basically didn't leave my house too much to do anything (even missed most of hunting season, but Gobbles IS more important than a deer...lol) so I could keep an eye on Gobbles. Believe me, I was a total basket-case; my hair even started thinning. I drove a lot of the kind folks her nuts, to be sure (I'm darn lucky my husband is such a patient, caring man or else we probably may have ended up in divorce court!). But I did, also, put Gobbles' in God's care and hands; and will add you & Lovey to my prayer list. Hang in there :mrgreen:lovey11 said:

Either of those options could slow the drop for Lovey.
I used to sometimes (I haven't done it in a while) shoot in the scruff when I had to leave for the day for work, and J.D. was having a dropping number, to slow the absorption. J.D.'s scruff is like saddle leather, and I use 1/2 inch needles.
And giving the extra snacks would help to slow the drop too. Actually, it's easiest for the pancreas to heal, if you can feed mutiple small meals.
I don't think Lovey is getting too much insulin. Except for on the 16th and 17th when I see no daytime tests on your spreadsheet, it actually looks like she could use a dose increase. Would you be home to test, if you gave an increase?
