Yesterday we increased Gideon's Lantus from 2.25 units BID to 2.5 units BID. I tested several times last night because his glucose was 91 at +2. I initially fed 13% carb food , but at +3 he was down to 80, so I fed 20% carb food which brought him up to 119.

This morning his AMPS is 82. I am stalling, but feel I can't keep seeing GREEN numbers with a chance he could go into the LOW GREENS.

Do you think the bump up of .25 units was too much? I know the idea is to shoot low, but if I am always giving higher carb food to keep him afloat, it seems to defeat the purpose.

Will retest in a few minutes and then will probably feed higher carb food. Should I go back to 2.25 units?

Thank you!

I did shoot the full 2.5 units, when I saw he wasn't going any lower at 15mins. I fed 9% carb food and will retest at +1.
This is nerve racking. If it wasn't for COVID, I wouldn't be able to work from home, and monitor Gidoen. Tomorrow night, I will work my second job, and my husband will be in charge. I may have to leave a bit higher carb food since he will only test either at +5 or +6, after PMPS. Before I leave for work, I get a +2. Then husband gets a +3 before he goes to bed. I am thankful he will get up once. Today is our 19th anniversary. I guess he is a keeper. Also, last night at +4 (11pm), our 17 year old son offered to test Gideon. He was on his way to bed, and I was sitting in the family room with cats all over me. Joshua brought the test kit to me, and then did the test. He made me laugh when he said "you put a needle in the shooter?" I guess he thought it was prefilled, and you use it over and over.

Look at Gideon work it! I guess there’s one good thing about Covid! And yes you have a keeper! :D

My concern is, if I don't constantly give a bit higher carb food when needed, he would drop into the low GREENS, which would qualify for a dose reduction. So, I am preventing a dose reduction, but should I?

For now I think I would continue to feed to prevent a reduction and keep him in blues and greens as long as it’s under 10% most of the time. When they really want a reduction they ear it. You just don’t want to prevent it by feeding hc unless you do that because you can’t monitor.

It is tomorrow night that I work. Tonight I will get up at 12mid to test. At +2.5, Gideon was 213. He just ate some 8% carb food.

Thanks! For our anniversary present, last night we bought a Rainbow air cleaning system. This thing is terrific. I am amazed what it picks up with vacuuming, and the air definitely feels fresher.
