Good morning,

Yesterday's condo

10/1 AMPS=149; +2=79; +2.5=74; +3=74
10/1 PMPS=104; +2.25=110

10/2 AMPS=241; +1=277; +2=232; +2.75=189
10/2 PMPS=166; +2=182; +4.5=169

I really did not see this coming, but Lucy is sick and not eating this morning. :cry:
She was feeling particularly well yesterday evening, and was fine when we went to bed about 4.5 hrs ago.
This morning, her AMPS was very high for her, and she does not want to eat.
I gave her Pepcid and Cerenia, and also shot her the normal dose since she's high enough.
I'll try offering her food in a while, and make sure she'll eat before leaving if her number drops.

I don't know which came first, being sick or the high BG......
I can't think of any reason why she might be feeling sick or high.

I don't know if it was the right thing to do, that I shot her while she isn't eating, but I did not want to leave her in yellow.
I did give her meds, but I'm not entirely confident if I can get her to eat if the meds don't kick in.
I'm getting nervous about it now....

Soooo sorry that Lucy isn't feeling well this morning. Tons of prayers that the meds make her feel better ASAP, and she's back to eating and feeling good. I know my GA civvie Mario would sometimes not feel super great in the mornings either...I have a feeling it was a bit of an acid tummy from it being a bit too empty.

Please keep us posted!!

Hi guys .. sorry to hear lucy is not feeling well .. with shooting her and her not eating much you'll want to keep an eye on the bg's .. they might drop quickly, or they might stay high if she continues to feel icky .. one just never knows .. have a great day!

Hi Mariko,
I hope Lucy is feeling better as the day goes on and that she will eat. Could she be having a pancreatitis flare? It was good to shoot, because you don't want her numbers to go too high. But, as everyone has said, keep an eye on her. She may simply be having a bounce from yesterday's good numbers. Has she vomited or shown any other indication of illness (besides not wanting to eat?).

Typo.... 277 is +1, not +2.

Good news.
I got her to eat about half of her regular breakfast portion.
I think combined with the high number, I am at least off the hock as far as hypo/going too low is concerned....

I think the meds kicked in, but she's still not feeling well.
I think after testing he +2, I'll just go to work on time for once, and hope she'll be better by the time I come home.
During the day, I have a reiki appointment for Lucy, so that may help........

BG can rise if a kitty isn't feeling well. It could also be a food spike. I wonder if her numbers went lower yesterday morning and you're seeing a bounce.

I then thought that if this is a bounce, she should have done it in the yesterday's PM cycle...

If this was a bounce from yesterday's AM cycle, then I should have stayed another hour, but I thought she was safe after testing her +2 yesterday morning.
What did I miss?

Bounce is OK, but I don't like the idea that I left her thinking she's safe when she might have gone too low.

I'm glad she ate some of her breffis...hopefully having a little food on board will help her feel better as well.

NNNOoooooo I don't want to think about the possibilities her gallbladder stones blocking her duct.
Because it will be the end of it. (cry cry cry cry cry cry cry)
The only way to fix it would be to remove her gallbladder, and she's too old and sick to survive that sort of surgery.

If anyone knows any other treatment for it, like laser, please tell me!
I know they sort of smash stones in tiny tiny pieces with laser for people, but I don't know if this is done for animal.

Ella, Lucy did make that awful vomiting sound about 1 hr before the shot time, so that's partly why I gave her Cerenia.
But no vomit came out.

Her +2 is 232, slightly down, but no by much.
Pacreatitis flare is a possibility.... but even if it is, I don't think it's a really bad flare as she isn't hiding or meatloafing....
I'll keep an eye on her, but in order to come home early, I'm going to work now after trying to get her to eat a little more....

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotrypsy:
Extracorporeal - from outside the body
shock wave - using ultrasound
lithotrypsy - stone break up
It does require some anesthesia and there is a risk the stones bits might not small enough to pass.

In humans, they also do an endoscopic procedure to go in through the mouth and retrieve stones wth a little basket. My sister had it done.

There are some surgeries which can be done laparoscopically at specialty vets. These result in minimal incisions, and may have less blood loss.

Mariko, I just did a quick search for naturopathic/homeopathic remedies for cats with gallstones, or to prevent gallstones, and there's a lot of info.
The less invasive, the better, right?
I use PetAlive remedies, so there's this.
This article mentions milk thistle and lecithin.
And here's some homeopathic remedies and preventatives.

Oh no, poor Lucy. I am sorry she is not feeling well today and is making you worried. I think it's good you gave her insulin so she wouldn't go higher and feel worse, and glad she ate something later. Big hugs to you, Mariko . . . :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Thank you so very much for all your vines and kind thoughts.
Also, thank you for the information about the procedure (BJM) and homeopathy (Lara)

Lucy still isn't feeling well, but at least she is in blue and she is eating slowly.
I was able to finger-feed her the 1st and 2nd dinner without too much difficulties.
Her energy is unfortunately very low, and so is mine.

I've had this terrible headache all day today, and it hurts worse to be looking at the computer monitor even though I changed it to the minimum brightness.
