Well LT didn't notice the food in the auto-feeder, so today we will have auto-feeder 101 for him @Wendy&Neko . Also, he totally turned up his nose at the Friskies Poultry Platter, so I had to pull out the Ocean Whitefish that I still had in the pantry. I was in a hurry, so I guessed at what a comparable caloric amount would be. Little stinker....

I hope everyone's kitty is doing well today and eating their food.

LT got his insulin while eating and then quit eating his food. He's nibbling on Friskies salmon right now. Now I really don't know how much he's had of anything now. Just trying to get him to eat.
 
If not opposed to assist feeding , when Elmo does that I gently, slowly syringe a teaspoon down him. Not sure if you’d want to try that . Always an alternative to not eating if not acting sick. Also give SEB tiny bits at a time . Prayers .

Maybe he is naturally regulating himself and he's had enough? If he goes low, do you think he would have some gravy, even if not really hungry? I would think he would.
I practiced for a few days, showing Tina her new food dish at the autofeeder, before I needed it. One of my civvies had no problem at all with it! Tina was a little slower.
 
Sending appy vines, sounds like hes eating some right? Does he like parmesan cheese? U can sprinkle some on his food, they can be so picky sometimes

Usually he's wanting more food when he's done. He only ate a bit of the salmon.

It's so aggravating when this happens, do u know how many times I've had 4 or 5 cans of food down and snubbed noses omg, what's his favorite thing to eat?

Oh, he'd eat the Cat Chow kibble if it was put in front of him - and that's not gonna happen! I only have one grocery store in town to get food from. So later today, I'll have to drive 15 minutes to find some more choices. He's playing like he's fine - rotten cat:arghh::facepalm::banghead:.

Ok I put a bit of the gerber turkey in with the fish and he's eating a bit more. I left him in peace and I'll see if he ate it all in a bit.

LT may be a good kitty and eat it if mixed with baby food....think mine would eat sawdust if mixed with turkey or beef( meat only 2nd food) Gerber baby food
 
I hope LT will continue to eat for you. I have listed below the suggestions we have for when a cat doesn't want to eat.

Do you have any parmesan cheese? If you maybe sprinkle a little of that on her food, she will perhaps eat? usually ondansetron is better for nausea than cerenia but it doesn't hurt to give her the cerenia....it can help.

Can you finger feed her....either see if she will lick food off your finger or will she let you dab some on the front of her tongue or on the roof of her mouth? Just be careful that it's only a small amount and that you don't get it down her throat.

Here's some info Jill often posts when a kitty won't eat:Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:

-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core.

-making a buffet to give him choices
- heating food

sprinkle food with :
- forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
- parm. cheese
- smashed crumbles of dry food
- Purebites Duck Liver -- crushed and put on as a topper.
- bonito tuna flakes
- halo chicken treats -- crumble into dust over food
- poor a little water from tuna in water over food ( I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats-- check labels)
-powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.

other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
- trader joe tuna for cats
-baby food -- beechnut turkey and broth or chicken and broth. they have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.
- kentucky fried chicken
- deli turkey /chicken
- plain cooked ( boiled or baked ) chicken breast
-canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
- chicken broth -- low sodium
 
So guess who's hungry now? I gave him about 2 tsp of food just now which is bit past +9. I'm a thinking he'll eat tonight. Maybe he just had a little tummy ache. I did order some SEB and oral syringes today so I have them just in case. Thanks for everyone's suggestions - they helped get him by on this cycle.

I think sometimes cats are like kids...they just decide...they don't want it...whatever it is...and then the ole appetite returns...and guess what...they'll eat it...

I hope you can find some nice treats to put in that auto-feeder - peak his interest! Chewy.com has a nice variety of carb free, freeze dried all meat products - you might want to check them out and select a couple - Luci sure loves them - and the variety gets her attention :)
 
Well he ate the boiled chicken while I checked his BG. I put the Ocean Whitefish and Poultry Platter in separate bowls and he wouldn't eat it. I added the whole enchilada to the fish - Parm, low sodium chix. broth, a fine dust of ground up kibble, water from low sodium tuna, and then some tuna and he finally is eating. I'm wondering if he might have an upper respiratory something that is suppressing his ability to smell. My vet once told me a cat won't eat, if a cat can't smell. Maybe a vetty visit for him tomorrow?

It looks like a catfood/topper tornado tore through my kitchen. I absolutely have never had an animal not eat and I'm pulling my hair out.

He eats just a bit and then quits. He has left some of the food, but we gave him his 1 drop anyways. Added the parm and he ate a bit then quit. Added warmed stage 2 gerbers - same thing as the parmesan. Added a bit of the chix broth, same song 3rd verse. Finally the tuna got him to eat but that can't be kept up. Is it better to try and have them eat even a MC than nothing?
 
Try raising the food bowl about 4 inches or so. An overturned cookie tin that has a bit of a ridge on the bottom to keep the dish from sliding off works. As does a stack of books you no longer want or care about. If a cat is a bit nauseous, they do not like to put their head lower than their body. Same as humans, really.

Or see if he will eat out of your raised up hand. Always fun to have the palm of your hand full of gucky, smelly catfood.
 
I babysat a friend's little girl this afternoon and then had an early evening commitment so I never made it to the store to get different kinds of food. I have some, roll the eyes please:eek:, Special Kitty turkey/giblets pate that is lower carb that I can try in the a.m. This started a day and a half ago, but today it's out of control.

I'll try anything at this point. I ordered SEB but it won't be here until Friday. Is there anything else OTC that I can try to give him? Also, does it mean anything that earlier today when I tried to feed him he was pretending to try and cover it?
 
I have a very large selection of wet food from Scooter having picky spells. I live in a rural area too and mostly have to order from Chewy by the case. I wish you were closer, I could give you a few cans of everything to try. Hopefully this is just a little picky spell and LT will go back to eating.
 
Ok, the little snot climbed on the counter and had his head stuck in the tuna can and was scarfing it down - so I pulled that away and he went for the lid to the gerber's food. I offered him the pate again - snubbed his nose. So I know that many say not to feed a fish based food to our cats because it's bad for them, but I really think I'm going to have to try something that has tuna in it.

Thanks Jill - us rural people have little choice other than Walmart to buy individual cans of food. The closest Pet Smart is 2 1/2 hours away and paying shipping for food under $49 is not maintainable if he doesn't eat it. The civvies are happy to do clean-up, but on a fixed income the cost of wet food piles up fast. And with my dog being on a new high dollar med for his heart, things are getting tighter all the time. I can't go to Walmart until Friday, so until then, the addition of tuna will have to do.
