Happy Sunday y'all.

I forgot what cool air felt like.....Its currently 63.....time for winter coats....naw..just kidding...but it sure does feel good.

So I started researching pet doors. Some require the kitty to wear a collar and one allows for a micro chipped kitty. Ummmmmm. First one costs less....OK....lets experiement with that one.....

Oh, forgot to tell ya WHY I'm experimenting with pet doors. Sid is my EVO dry kibble eater and refused to switch to canned. She goes on food strikes if I attempt a switch, even if I go sloooooooooooooooooowly. She eats her food in my bedroom w/the door closed.....She HATES closed doors.....So typically I put her in the bedroom w/the food...she eats some, none or all her food and then comes to the door and meows to be let out. If she eats...that's great....if not, we play the "Please will ya eat your food" game and go back and forth w/the food. Basically its a pain. She's become more of a grazer than Curry. Furthermore, if I go out of town, one of them would have to be locked up in a room. Sid is skittish, hides and won't come out if food is left and then Miss Hoover, Curry, would snarf it down in 2 seconds. I've been very fortunate that Curry has not gotten into any of the kibble except once at the beginning of her diabetes journey.

So I experimented first w/a collar on Sid. Then even purchased the sensor for the collar to see how she would react. NOT. She scratched and scratched and scratched.....You get the picture. So I decided since she was due for her annual vetty appointment I would have her micro chipped for the other pet door. Done. No problem.

Then I had to put a hole in my bedroom door ( I live in an apartment and will have to purchase a new door before leaving here....already did that research). So I borrowed a jigsaw from a friend....I have never used a jigsaw.....Dang, those things are loud......Put the hole in the door and set the pet door in place.

Then I had the door open for Sid to jump through and used food to entice her. The video shows Sid squeezing through the door....they are awfully small....Sid weights about 9 lbs.....You can hear the loud clicking sound of the locking mechanism which scares her....have it temporarity disabled it for now and also have the door taped in an open position to get her use to going through.

Getting cool here, too :-Q And dark. It's back to using the flashlight to find my way to the bus stop in the mornings now :? The streets are very poorly lit, if at all, where I live :-Q

Cute video

Nothing new with Leroy and Emma. It's been a PITA to get Leroy to eat his breakfast now :? He runs from the bowl trilling and hides @-) No idea why he's afraid of his bowl now confused_cat He will come out after a few minutes and eat, though.

I loved the video. I wonder how it works with the microchip. I bet she'll be comfortable with it in no time. Especially when she realizes Curry can't get in LOL.

Leroy, you're being weird  Have you tried moving the bowl to a different location?

Thanks for the video of the cat door, Tena. I hope it works well for Sid. Good job installing it :-D

Way to go Sid! I hope she will get used to the door soon and you'll be able to let the flap go down. What a great way to solve the food problem between your two kitties.

I trained BigMac to go in/out through a pet door to our porch and it's great. I had to get a dog door since the biggest cat door was too small. ohmygod_smile

that is tight! but it's also a great idea that the hoover can't fit through!  i could see punkin trying to figure out how to reach in with his paw and grab the food from inside if he couldn't fit through! :-D

it's back to dark and gray already here. kinda misty looking morning - we're supposed to have rain all week. i don't mind, though - just makes me want to hunker down and eat soup!

I wonder....do LeRoy and Emma eat together? Sid started not wanting her food when Curry was around.....Curry would come over and Sid would leave the area....Finally figured out that Sid was intimidated by Curry.

You must have to go to work very early if you need a flashlight. Be careful walking in the dark.

Karrie - there is a micr chip sensor in the Sure Flap door that is activated when Sid puts her head in......Next step will be teaching her to push her head against the door to open it.

Both of my kitties think its Winter...they are becoming less active and finding hidey holes to nap in.

Curry is doing well....we continue to do Kitty Bootcamp(chasing her treats) twice a day and try to entice her into some play....sometimes she plays and sometimes she doesn't....but at least she gets some activity in w/chasing the treats. And I still test her multiple times during the week. Can't help it. Some days she'll hover around 90 all day long...even after she eats....other days she'll go down to 67 and hover around 80 or so. And LB action brings her numbers down a bit too.

I have been looking at a lot of old photos and videos of Bear Man (his one year GA anniversary is next week). It has taken me a while to be able to watch the videos. Here he is navigationg the stairs and walkway (keep in mind he was blind) on one of his beloved walks outside. This was taken in late September 2009.

Linda - I didn't know Bear Man was blind. Wow. What an amazing kitty and love the photo. Please share more of them when you get a chance.

How are Teddy and Pinkerton doing? You were experimenting w/controlled exposures for awhile.

Love all the videos! Linda, Bear Man was quite the gorgeous boy!

The pet door is quite small... I think I'd have a challenge getting Willie to use something like that. He does well with our pet doors now... he bangs his paw against the flap maybe 20 times, then gives up and just propels himself through it like a rocket. Once he is through, he gives you this look of "what?!? that was perfectly normal!!!" and then licks himself for good measure.

Thanks! There is another video of Bear Man (his garden video) linked in my signature.

I ran out of time and/or motivation on the controlled exposures  We hit a bit of a roadblock when Pinky went to the vet for sedation and X-rays. He came back very upset, and Teddy was freaked out by the vet smell, and I never got back into the routine. I am continuing with the timesharing, where Pinky gets much more time to run around and explore the house while Teddy naps in a closed room. As I am typing, Teddy is sitting beside me on Pinkerton's favorite spot beside the computer, and Pinky is napping in Teddy's bed beside the TV.

Pinky has also been on Paroxetine long term, and I am in the last few days of weaning him off completely.

Wow, the cat door does seem really small. But good for Sid learning to use it! I hope it solves your feeding problems.

Linda, great video of Bear Man. It amazes me how they still want to go outside and can actually manage it when they're blind. I once had a cat with cataracts - he could see a little bit I think, but if things were moved around in the house he would run into them. Yet he remained an indoor/outdoor cat all his life. Thanks for posting that, it's wonderful to see Bear Man again.

Sometimes he runs when he sees me holding the bowl  Most normal cats associate bowl with yummies. Leroy sees bowl and thinks "scary object! Must run! I'll eat in a few minutes when the bowl is not so scary" And he only does this in the morning @-)

They do but don't have a problem with it. Leroy has a short attention span so it takes him awhile to finish all his food. Emma occasionally tries to sneak food out of his bowl but I push her away. On weekday mornings Leroy usually gets fed in the bathroom while I'm brushing my teeth, door closed of course so he won't wander away. On the days when he runs from his scary bowl, I just feed him while I'm eating breakfast.

Yup. I walk on residental streets so in theory they should be well lit but they aren't, especially by the elementry school :-Q And did I mention the coyotes in the area? @-) This is an urban area, too. A coyote carrying a dead rabbit walked by no less than 10 feet away from me while I was waiting at the bus stop once

Is Sid getting the hang of using the cat door? Squishy Merlin could not figure out the flap on covered litter boxes so I always had to take off the flap. Leroy would think a flap is a neat toy and constantly bat at it

((Linda)) Thanks for sharing the video of Bear Man. Squishy's two year anniversay is coming up, too. My brother gave me some pictues of Squishy that I have never seen before. They were taken in 2008. I'll have to get those scanned into the computer.

This is the closest Leroy and Emma get to cuddling:
