Our thoughts and prayers continue for Libby and Linda for their losses, and - of course - our prayers are always in perpetual motion for all those who need them...and even those who don't!

Soooo...I opened a fresh can of Instinct today, and Trix was happy as a clam (or, to quite Marje, feeling fine as frog's hair  !). The only thing I can figure is that the last can that she seemed to despise had a bit of a dent in it. I quadruple-checked that can to make sure it was fully sealed despite the dent, and it seemed fine, but maybe not. All I know is breakfast went MUCH smoother today, and hopefully we're seeing the end of this round of food wars.

Happy Wednesday, LantusLand!

Amy

Hi Amy, this is the response I received from Nature's Variety on the ingredient in question. I'm on my way out shortly but wanted to let you know.

Thank you for e-mailing! Montmorillonite Clay is one of the most effective natural intestinal detoxifying agents available. Montmorillonite Clay contains minerals that, once inside the gastrointestinal tract, are able to absorb toxins and deliver mineral nutrients. The clay is eventually eliminated from the body with the toxins bound to its multiple surfaces. The benefits reported by people using Montmorillonite Clay are improved intestinal regularity; relief from chronic constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, and ulcers; increased physical energy; enhanced alertness; emotional uplift; improved tissue and gum repair; and increased resistance to infections. Our diets contain LESS than 2% of Montmorillonite Clay, so it is a very small amount. Thanks for supporting our products!
Montmorillonite Clay is found in all of our products because it is a benefit for cats and dogs, all life stages and breeds. Montmorillonite Clay actually provides relief from constipation

The day is starting nicely for Miss Trixie! Oh yes, the food wars! All those naps the kitties take, I think they're dreaming up ways to keep us from taking them for granted!

Hi Amy,
I googled M . . . Clay (can't look up the spelling of it's name right now!) and found lots of pages, articles, etc. I sent Ann a link, so check in Maggie's condo for it, or in Rusty's condo.

Just a note on By Nature organics. Stu loved By Nature Turkey and Turkey liver, but it was the regular--not the organics-- line (they have 2 lines). The regular line has a real paté texture, whereas the "organics" line always seemed to me to be fluffy and weird). Some stores only carry the organics line because they think that's what people are looking for. Check around (and on their website) to find the "regular" line. As I recall, it is 2% carbs. Rusty was lukewarm to it when I tried it on him, but I might offer it again and see if he likes it better (I still have quite a few of Stu's cans).

Good luck with the food search!

Ella

p.s. Trixie looks great! Nice +4.

Cool that the "regular" line is low-carb - I wasn't able to find that sort of info before. Another possible option for Trix!

My senior, Mario, eats the "organics" line because it's low on phosphorous and he's got the whole renal insufficiency going on.

Yep, food is a good time in our house. 6 cats, about 7 different diets, what with food sensitivies/allergies, diabetes, renal issues....it's a veritable 3-ring circus.

Good afternoon!! Great dive for Miss Trixie today. I do not envy feeding time at your house.

Hope you have a great day!

Hi Amy, I just got home and read the info from Ella on the clay, a little pause there from me. :YMSIGH: Maggie loves the NV Instinct so much and she has been having great cycles on it. I just saw above in the post from Ella some interesting info on Nature organics. Does Trixie like this brand? I bought a can of Blue Wilderness chicken to try. Oh boy, the food wars are wearing me out. I think I'll take a rest. confused_cat

Hi again, Amy,

Check out Rusty's condo again with regard to M-Clay. Ann (Tess) and Tracy (Leo) have some very interesting things to say!! Also Barbara (Tuffy) told me in a P.M. what her vet-tech, holistic- medicine daughter has to say about herbal and other remedies and I paraphrased it in Rusty's condo.

Good luck with feeding all those kitties different diets!! In between feedings, have a great evening!

Ella

I'll go check out all the condos - thanks so much!!!

Ann: I haven't tried the By Nature foods with Trix yet. Mario, my 16 year old, eats By Nature Organics and Trix has had a taste or two. She does like it, but I don't know the carb content. I haven't tried the other By Nature line - the non-organic one - just yet, but that may be on the list. I couldn't agree more about being worn out by the food wars!! I love all my kitties to pieces, but I soooooo miss the days when I could plop down six bowls of all the same kibbles and walk away...
