Will test again at +3.... i'm wondering if this is a flat curve or if he could be heading to lower numbers?
He had this pattern on 10/10.. but we have no nighttime data for that day. the next morning he was higher...
thanks for the treat tips... all help is so very much appreciated! :thumbup :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I'm anxious to see what Oliver's next test numbers are. I thought i would put up the numbers we've got and see what you all think.

would the +2 maybe be his breakfast kicking in before his insulin kicks in?
I almost got a +4 but i let go of his ear and he flicked the blood off.. shoot.

This is about the most tests i can get in a day.... last night he got as far away from me as he could, swatted at us and his pupils filled his entire eyeball!!

I didn't get more test numbers yesterday because i was taking our little feral rescue to his forever home. thank heavens he's got a nice warm spot for the cold winter.

now.. come on down Ollie!!!
thanks in advance

Many prayers to those who are dealing with difficult health problems. Our issues are so small compared to some here.

Re: 10/19/12 Oliver Twist AMPS 364; +2 381 +7 339 ?

Thanks for visiting over at Fur Ball's condo. He is sleeping all balled up on the couch right now. Preparing himself for the festivities tomorrow. Very exciting to be at this leg of this journey.

Can't offer much advice to you as I just don't have enough experience.

Sorry to hear about the testing challenges. Is Oliver much of a cuddler? Sometimes I just sit and talk w/ FB and rub on his ears getting him used to it. Hopefully Ollie will become more comfortable with the testing the longer you do it. I hope!

Have a great evening. And Oliver, come on down and surf the blues.

Mary --

Are you giving Oliver treats every time you test? It doesn't matter if your testing is successful or not -- if you poke, Oliver gets a treat and hugs and praise. You want testing to be associated with something positive. There have been some cats that aren't very treat oriented. Their caregivers would use brushing in place of a treat if that was something their cat liked.

You've been at this dose for 3 cycles (4 if you include tonight). You'll want to reevaluate Oliver's dose after 6 cycles.

thanks!
ollie seems to do pretty well with testing, up to a point. Usually he and i sit in a chair having shrimp bites while i heat up his ear. then we go get our poke, more shrimp, some bites of food and more sitting in the chair with a few more bites of shrimp. lately, he's been purring through most of testing but By the end of yesterday, he didn't care if i was a huge shrimp, he wanted nothing to do with me. when i put his sock in the micro,, he made a crazy noise and ran off. I wish i was as smart as a "dumb animal"
i will keep trying but i am a little hesitant to poke him while he's so wild eyed because i'm wondering if we'll just get bumped up stress numbers.
thanks for any suggestions, i'm just grumping... we will get there.. we're just WAAAAYY SLOW

tomorrow night will be six doses ... hope we have good numbers by then.
xoxo

I would expand on the treat pattern.
  • Put the sock in the microwave. Don't poke. Give Ollie a treat.
  • Nuke the sock. Warm Ollie's ear. Don't poke. Give Ollie a treat.
  • Sit in the chair. Don't poke. Give Ollie a treat.
  • Do your usual test routine. Give Ollie lots of treats.
What you're doing is intermittently reinforcing Ollie for putting up with the testing. Sometimes he gets a treat for just being himself. Other times, he gets a treat for being poked.
