Good morning,
Yesterday was a mostly blue day on the Libre. A few dips to greens on the Libre (so higher on a handheld meter)

She’s had a fur puke when I go into her room first thing in the morning. I can tell it’s fur she’s “pulled” and then pukes.
I wish I could get to the bottom of why she does that. So far this week it’s been three times. It’s not your normal hairball, it’s definitely fur she’s pulled.

It seems to go in waves, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. I’m hoping it has nothing to do with the transdermal methimazole she’s taking.
Since she gets the transdermal I don’t think it’s supposed to make them nauseous or itchy.

But she was doing this before she was on methimazole, so it’s not a new behavior for her.

It’s always something isn’t it? :banghead:
Hope everyone has a good day :cat:

Hi Staci,
Hmmm. Maybe Ivy over-grooms herself? Some kitties are so fastidious that they go overboard when cleaning self?
Does it have any seasonal aspect? Some people have fall allergies - can kitties do?
I wish they could tell us what bothered them. We are always chasing ??? about what they do!

Hope Ivy surfs nicely today and you have a lovely day, Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Kit, great questions!!
It seems to go in cycle, sometimes she does it, sometimes she doesn’t. And it is throughout the year so I can’t say specifically that it’s one season or not. Sometimes she can go weeks in between sometimes its days.
I actually can see her doing it sometimes she’s actually pulling the fur, biting it. I tell her to stop. She looks at me and then defiantly starts doing it again. So Ivy.

Then obviously she ingests it and then pukes it out.

She’s definitely been doing it before she had the thyroid situation so I can’t say that I think it’s definitely tied to that and the medication.

It’s just so much to figure out!!

She just doesn’t want me to have any rest or not have something to worry about I supposeo_O

Hope you have a great day, Kit :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci,

I'm sorry about the fur pulling. Another worry. Does she pull the fur all over the body or in certain regions? I'm sure you checked all possibilities like stress, allergies? Parasies shouldn't be a problem for her as an indoor-cat. I hope you can find a solution. And I can imagine very well how she looks at you and does it anyway. :) Just Ivy.

Her bg looks really nice though!

Hope you have a good start in the weekend and you can recover from the stress of the week! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike,
I only see her doing it on her chest and maybe upper arm area. Her chest is white but it’s always darker fur. So it must be the arms and shoulder area, which is dark fur.
I’ve had them check her closely and no vet has ever found any parasites or anything on her.

Maybe allergies, who really knows. I don’t change the food she eats so it’s not like she eats different cans of food.

Always a mystery ;)

she’s been having a nice cycle today. I did feed her a little 12.5% Earlier since I had to go to the grocery store.
She’s coasting now, sleeping in my closet under my jeans. Silly cat:rolleyes:

I hope you and Binie are doing well today. I’m gonna go check on you both now.
Big hugs to you both :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Wow a dive ivy had today, Staci :bighug:
I hope Ivy goes on a nice and steady surf for the rest of the day.

I wonder why she's pulling her hair. When Prince started doing that I thought about food allergies and with the latest food change he stopped it.
You know how I think.... Skin equals gut. The medicine might disturb some gut balance for Ivy. And if she's had some disturbance before it makes sense that it'll increase if there's something that irritates her system.

I trust that you'll get to the bottom of it. I know you won't stop trying. YOu're such am amazing, caring mum for Ivy.
I wish you both a calm and boring Furiday :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci,

if it is always in the same area, it might be worth checking, if there is something bothering her. Is arthritis a thing for Ivy? So sad, we can't just ask....

ChatGPT told me today, that you can test allergies in the blood, if you suspect that.

Hope she is coasting the day in good and safe numbers! So nice she is sleeping under your jeans! I think she wants to make sure, your clothes are nicely decorated with some fur. :)

I also send you and Ivy big, big hugs! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Shelly, I’ll have to bring it up again. Maybe this vet has some ideas.
I agree. It must mean something.

She was really doing it a lot last winter before I took the T-shirt off of her. That’s when I decided it was worth taking the T-shirt off to try and see if it helped. And it did, because she was doing it so often I could see she was stressed.

And once I did that it made such a difference. It really calmed things down overall for her.

Thank you so much for your input and your thoughts. I always appreciate your perspective. Hope you also have a wonderful and calm, boring weekend.

Hi Heike, I do think you’re right, she’s trying to accessorize my jeans with fur accents, but I’m OK with that. I proudly wear Ivy fur wherever I go

I assume she probably does have some arthritis. She is 13.
And she did have that broken leg last year so the surgeon did tell me she probably will have arthritis as a result of that.

And you’re right, if only she could tell me what’s bothering her I would be happy to fix it if I could.

If it has to do with the fur pulling or not - you may want to try green lipped mussel powder for Ivy. It is a supplement and it helped Binie a lot with her backpain. And she actually likes it and takes it like a treat. :cat:

Hi Staci.
Nice surfing, Ivy! :D Ivy, I hope you continue to surf steady tonight and safely.

I have another cat (China) that bites at her fur and makes it clump, then pulls it out. Though, she doesn't swallow it
China was my sister's cat but unfortunately, I lost my sister in January, and I took China in. I am not sure why she does it or if this was something she always did.
Yes, I agree, it's always something! :banghead:
Wishing you both a wonderful nigh!

Hi Staci and Ivy!

Beautiful cycle today.
Sorry to hear about the fur pulling and I know you'll figure this out as you always do. I notice with change of seasons my boys' eyes get some sort of discharge and then it goes away mostly on its own. So maybe some seasonal stuff with Ivy as well. Could also be stress/anxiety?

Wishing you both a boring and peaceful night.

That was some up and down that Ivy had today - but she pulled out a pretty good PMPS! I hope she stays steady so you can get bed sleep tonight. :bighug:
I hope you're able to figure out the fur pulling - I know it's rough when something is going on that we can't figure out the why for. :bighug:

Hi Madeline,
I’m for your loss of your sister :( It’s so sad and it’s so kind of you to take China into your home ❤️

Thank you for letting me know about your experience with a similar situation. I can’t quite decide if it’s behavioral with Ivy or something else. I have discussed it with several vets and nobody seems to have a real answer for me.
My investigating continues as always.

I hope you and Butch had a smooth night and wishing you all a nice weekend :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Karolina,
Who really knows what goes on with Ivy. She’s so multifaceted.
I don’t think it’s seasonal since it seems to continue on and off all the time. And she’s such a high stress cat so it certainly could be a stress related, but that’s just a guess. I can’t say there’s anything particular that would have stressed her out this past week and she did it three times :arghh:

I’m glad to hear that the seasonal stuff with your boys goes away on its own and doesn’t really need any big attention. That’s good to hear.

I appreciate the information. It’s always good to hear what other people and cats go through and sometimes it makes you think of something you hadn’t thought about:)

Hope you have a nice weekend with your wonderful boys :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks for your support, Alicia. It’s always such a challenge to figure things out isn’t it? She did have some decent cycles yesterday so that was a good thing. She seemed pretty happy and even got to have a little nap in my closet. I know she likes that:smuggrin:

Wishing you and Kit cat a wonderful weekend, Hope you can relax :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci.

Thank you so much ❤️ You're welcome.

Yes, it's so sad :( she was a little lost but has come around. Butch on the other had still gets in his moods and bothers her every now and then

Good luck with your investigation. Hoping you find the answers soon and Ivy slows down with the chewing and pulling.

Butch had calm night and surfed in the blues  I did give snacks of 12% to support no big dives.

Wishing you both a happy Saturday and safe surfing, Ivy!
