10/17 Savannah amps 129, pmps 95

I will update my SS shortly. I grabbed a few spot checks yesterday and hope to get much more in today.

I have a question about weight loss. When Savannah was at the vet in July she weighed 15.5 lbs (possibly a little more but I have to look back at her info) Out of curiosity I weighed her yesterday on my scale (which meant I had to weigh myself first :-| , then I weighed myself holding her and subtracted) She now weighs 14lbs! Should I be concerned that she lost 1.5lbs in about 4 months? She doesn't seem to have a loss of appetite. She still eats on her own time and if I want her to eat more, I can always put Savannah in front of her food dish and she will keep eating. I don't think she's eating as much as when she was on N, but I'm not seeing a huge difference. I was thinking that maybe when she was on N the sudden drops made her want to eat more thru out the day, and now that she is pretty flat thru out the day, she's not feeling the need to eat b/c there are no sudden drops. Any thoughts? Should I take her to the vet?

Is there any chance you have a weight on Savannah on your home scale prior to the vet visit where she was weighed? Bathroom scales are not always terribly accurate. Most vets who want you to keep track of your cat's weight will tell you to get a baby scale since the increments are smaller and better calibrated for lower weights. The difference could be a difference in your scale vs. the vet's. FWIW, I had one of the vet techs come over to my home for a check on Gabby's teeth after her dental. She brought along a scale. Gizmo was weighing around 11.5 - 12 lbs on my bathroom scale (he tends to sit on it). On her scale, he was over 13 lbs.

If Savannah is OK with travel, maybe you could take her in to the vet for a weight check. If she has lost that much weight in this short of a time, I'd be concerned especially if her food consumption hasn't changed.

Our scale has typically been pretty close to the vets, maybe .5lbs off. She's decent with travel, it depends how long the car ride is. Since we moved it's hard to figure out who to go to. Do I go back to our home vet 30 minutes away, or to the animal hospital/clinic that we went to for the consultation for her seizures which is also 30 minutes away, or someone entirely new that's ten minutes away? Ahhh! I hate decisions. I am going to find my old notes on her weight...

She looks good, maybe a little less large in her stomach area. Her stomach typically hung pretty close to the ground, it's still pretty low to the ground though but maybe a little higher. It's hard to tell, she's still a big girl.

She acts pretty normal, I would say even more playful these past few months than I had ever seen her on N. There's a definite spring in her step.

Nice amps! Good job Savannah! and i agree with the others on the weight. If the food consumption and food type is the same, then maybe it would be worth a weight check at the vet?

I'm so annoyed with myself, I can't find my old paperwork and none of the vet stuff that we had done over the summer lists her weight, but I know they weighed her. My DH reminded me that before we brought her into Tufts over the summer we weighed her at home and we thought she lost weight (I can't find that number) but when they weighed her at Tufts she actually hadn't lost any weight. So it does seem like the scales are different.

However, I did find a note from January that when we weighed her at home she was 16lbs, and now she's weighing 14lbs on our home scale. Just to clarify, her eating habits have changed, she does not eat like she used to prior to Lantus. The volume seems to be less, but not a drastic amount-she never refuses to eat but I don't see her at her bowl as much as I did before. She still lokos for the dry kibble and begs for chicken and turkey.

I think I may make an appt with the ppl. at Tufts rather than a new vet, since they probably have her weight on file somewhere and they were also the ones that prescribed her Lantus.

I agree with the others about the weight issue. It certainly wouldn't hurt if you could take her to the vet to have her checked out. Just for your own peace of mind.

Since I have been feeding canned foods exclusively after years of having the dry available all day, it is strange that Raja has lost weight and Shadow has put weight back on. He had lost a lot with the symptoms of FD but now he is looking so great.
It's almost as if the proper diet has done opposite things for my two but has brought them to where they are better off!
I think they would look at her file if you called them tomorrow and tell you what the weight showed then....then take her to your vet if you still have questions. The scales do vary so much.

I know that this is a concern, and maybe you can bring her to the vet just to double check it...but from what you said, it might be okay if she has slimmed down a little bit...if it isn't going hand-in-hand with worrisome symptoms.
But you will feel better if you have her checked out...just to be sure.

I was going to say the same as Pat - you can call them and they can look up the weight for you. Also, was she overweight before? Is she underweight now? Did you change her food? If she's on a better diet now than before, she could just have slimmed down to a healthier weight. I also subscribe to the belief that peace of mind is well worth the price of a vet visit, so if you are worried about her, take her in. Nice amps today too.

No change in food, I think we've been doing canned for the past two years. The only change that has recently happened is her insulin. She would still be considered overweight/obese. When she was first dx with diabetes she was 18lbs, then when we changed her to wet food & she dropped to 16 within about a year... now she fluctuates somewhere between 15-16lbs between vet visits. I always worry about wasting. She had small focal seizures one night in the summer and the vet said it was most likely due to the roller coaster ride from Humulin. She recovered quickly (she was off balance for a few days) and her labs were normal, & they were confident it wasn't anything serious since there has been no more seizure activity. We didn't have an MRI done at the time b/c the vet wanted to get her diabetes under control to see if that may have been the cause. Because we didn't do the MRI I'm always wondering what if something is going on and I don't know...
I will def. call them tomorrow. I'd feel better if we could get an appt. and check her weight there. Peace of mind sounds good.
